Anything above 1242 is not a Fire. The 1242 16v is known as the superfire but the bigger engines(1301cc and up) are not Fire.

The new 1368cc engine as used in new Panda is a Fire unit and teh biggest they have made AKAIK, and its a alluminium block so its actually 1kg lighter than the 1242unit, but Oldschool knows this better than most as I am quoting him.

UT was not a Fire unit.

as we have no punto sporting here i dono it was 8v not 16v:cool:

and check this out:

i think this explains things ok.
superfire engines are fire engines with 16v heads
1242 16v superfire engine fitted in punto sporting.
1242 8v block taller then 1108 block, but essentially the same engine.
all 8v engines are non interfering engines.
16v are not.
all engines are made by robot, but the bottom ends are not well balanced unlike the old 128 type engine straight out of the factory.
the fire engine is made in its millions. production is staggering.:)

1301, 1372 and 1581 are based on the 128 type sohc 8v engine.
largest fire engine is 1400 superfire engine.:)
btw, there is a new 16v engine on the way to replace the 5 cylinder 20v engine, and of course the new 1.6 turbo engine for the punto etc. will they be a new generation of superfire engines? will have to wait and see.;)

there is no FIRE 1.6.

1301 and 1372's are not FIRE, no.

The biggest FIRE unit is the new 1368 that's in the new Puntos. Comes in 16v or 8v flavours, same as the 1242.

also, there is the next generation JTD engine to come. rumour of a twin turbo version is on the cards.:)

thx guys,,
another Q :D
about the 1.5 ritmo engine[twin choke super],what are its specs??

They are not twin turbos. They are sequential turbos.

Any engine bigger than 1368 will not be a FIRE engine any more. What started with the abreviation (sp?) relates to the engine family that started with the 999 and 769.

One thing all FIRE engines have in common is the head bolt pattern. Any FIRE head can be directly bolted on to every FIRE engine (not saying it would work in all configurations because 1242 head on 769 block would would have an unwanted rendezvous with the valves).

Trying to go bigger with the FIRE range of engines would result either in overlapping bores and/or pistons as long as in a steam engine.

The claim that the Fiat bottom ends are not very well balanced I can't verify having lots of experiences otherwise.

Also any FIRE engine can be mated with any FIRE gearbox.

The FIRE engine range is currently:

769
999
999 Super FIRE
1108
1242
1242 Super FIRE
1368
1368 Super FIRE
