hi
i have a fiat panda 312 1.2 petrol tear 2012.
i want to turn off the daylights but i looked on the menu and there is nothing about daylights on/off. is there another way to turn them off.
thanks

The DRLs are a bit of a mixed thing with me; I've twice driven off my driveway in the dark thinking the lights were on (of course there is no rear DRL to match the front).

As well as that, I have to approach an armed military checkpoint on my way into work, and it is mandatory at night to turn your main lights off. While that's not a problem in itself, after queueing up to get passes checked I have driven on to the unit and forgotten to put the lights back on because the DRLs throw enough light to light up signs etc making me think the main lights are on. Duh!

I'd rather have the DRLs permanently on (I believe they're a great idea) but with a rear DRL functioning as well, but also have a sidelight function as well - remember dim-dip?

Still, it's what it is, and I just need to get used to it

hi
thanks for all the answers. i drive the car in the city day time and i think that having the DRLs on is not necessary. there is no option in the menu to turn them on/off. i just wondaring if the option can be activate from the ecu. some people say yes but before i invest in multiecuscan i want to be sure.
thanks

The city in the daytime is precisely why daytime running lights where intended to be used most

:yeahthat:
They tell all other road users that the car is moving, or will move, so presents a danger. The busier the pedestrian flow, the bigger the risk of someone stepping into the road. Having the DRLs discourages them from stepping out.

As said, if you can turn them off, this might cause an issue at MOT. If fitted as standard after a particular date, turning them off might not be permitted.

People often complain about how difficult the bulbs are to change. That must be when they need to change one. Perhaps there's a market for blown bulbs, where the sidelamp part still works.

while you may feel they are unnecessary, the law requires them, (since Feb 2011) and city traffic is where they are most beneficial. That’s why there’s no option to turn them off. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/daytime-running-lights/daytime-running-lights

Surely your dash will be not lit, isnt that enough to tell you your headlights arnt on?

Actually, opposite problem as the digital section is always lit. It gets dimmer when the lights are on. Not being able to see the heater controls is a good clue though :)
I’ve only once driven off without the headlights in this car. But in my Citroen BX years back I was always doing it as the whole dash etc was lit whenever the ignition was on, even if the external lights were not.... but we’re straying off topic here. Why would you want to disable the DRLs?

because they drain the battery and i would like the option to turn them on/off. my panda is the basic pop model 2012 and the option in the menu is disactivated. in other model suck as the panda easy or the fiat 500. the option to turn them on/off is activate in the dash menu.

Why would they drain the battery unless you sit there with your key in the ignition position but without your engine running

Since the mid 1970s, cars have used alternators to generate their electricity. These, even with the engine just idling, always supply more power than the car will use. The DRLs are 21W each so the two are less than 4amps. The alternator in the petrol Panda delivers 70 Amps (and on higher spec models with things like heated seats etc, 90 amps). So the DRLs will ‘never’ drain the battery.

As said, they will not drain the battery, unless you sit with ignition on, but engine not running.

If you have a battery drain problem, perhaps you'll get better help if you describe that issue, without trying to guess the answer first.
Your car is 2012, and if the battery is still the original, it will be at the end of its life anyway. A standard battery will normally last 7 years or so, stop/start batteries usually have a shorter life.
