Thanks, really good set of pictures---as you are using a 500 crankcase, don't forget, you must use a 500 oil-pump, not a 126 version, and don't forget to pack the oil-pump with Vaseline (you know, just like the rich girls use!) prior to installing it in the timing-case.

Following your advice on other posts re oil pumps I have packed it with Vaseline , and am using the 500 pump with new gears. (I carefully chose the new gears from the options available at fdricambi, being the ones with shallower gear depth but large dog gear to fit the new 650 camshaft.)
I went to fit the timing cover and the gasket had shrunk, and I very carefully - tore it.:bang:
Need to order another.
I did however get the rocker gear on and tappets adjusted today, and thanks to telemike who had a box of engine bits stashed away I also got a couple of tab washers for the timing gear to camshaft so that is all good now.
I am loading more pics to Flickr and when I work out how to display them in posts will add some more

Hi 1500500, Love your pic's - good job. I too am reassembling my engine and have a question re the camshaft. I have a brand new Cam and brand new followers, so far I have checked that the Crank turns smoothly and have refitted the new Camshaft - that alone turns smoothly, but now that the followers are all in the cam has become stiff to turn. The tappets are all loose so no pressure there. The Cam came with a black matt finish all over including the lobe surfaces and the followers have the same treatment. The assembly was made with copious amounts of oil, but still not smooth to turn? Will the cam run-in or is the finish on the cam and followers to be removed????? Comments from other engine guru's most welcome.

Thanks for the feedback, I have quite a few more photos to load. My dad was quite amused that every time I was about to bolt another part on, I would stop to take a picture.
My new cam came free of a black coating so I didn't notice any sticking

Thanks re the pictures. I liked seeing other peoples rebuild threads with photos before I took this on. The workshop manuals are good but the clarity of some pics is not great so I went a bit overboard, but glad I did.
I am going to try and get the kids to bolt the rest of the small things on such as fuel pump and fan cowling etc.

Well done! You seem to have the staff situation well sorted--and on a serious note, great to see youngsters helping on the car rather than--'I can't Dad, I'm in the middle of a game on my ?-?-?'
Is that a '850 saloon' that I see lurking in the background?---converted into an OT1000 they make for a great 'just going out for a blast dear' cars, and in some ways better than the 600 based variants. Abarth put a 1600 Twin-cam into the back of a 850, called it the OT1600. The idea was to challenge Lotus (with the Cortina), but Fiat didn't show any interest in the project so, sadly, very few 'pucka' ones were built.
