Trouble is the "big dog Punto" is pi**ing all over you. ;););)

So far St. George has spent longer looking for his sword (tin snips) than he has spent fighting the Dragon LOL.

Well... it's your Punto, you're the one to give it power. So I am. 😁

Even i'm rooting for the Punto LOL.

DO NOT adjust the nut inside the car to achieve a set number of clicks when pulling lever up-doing so will very likely pull the shoe levers off their stops this will stop the self adjusters working correctly .

Some MOT testers can be picky about hand lever travel which is why I suggested not refitting cover for a quick twiddle- but put adjustment back correctly after test pass

Adjusted cables as I previously described operate pedal etc then IF self adjusters working the balance bar will be level and hand lever travel will be correct.

There is a way to check visually check self adjusters working but it involves FINESSE VERY SLIGHTLY pressing brake pedal with one drum off to see if adjuster wheel is turned by spring metal finger moving .

Post 234 second video shows your adjuster type viewed from below

The nut needs to be adjusted for the hand brake to work. How else?!
Yes, the nut on the handbrake lever mecanism (inside the cabin) is for adjusting cable tension only, not the amount of self-adjustment for the shoes. If the brake shoes are worn and the self-adjustment mecanism is no longer compensating, change the brake shoes.

Cables should be slack with the lever down, and tighten with the first click...

The cable adjuster is turned to take only the slack in the cables WITHOUT starting to pull the levers on the shoes. Then the self adjusters set correct shoe drum clearence. Remember one end of adjuster is touching shoe lever so if cable too tight it is already starting to move shoe lever.
If shoe lever pulled off its stop by over adjusted cable the auto adjusters dont work correctly and the hand brake wont work correctly

Oh... I missed you/Jack saying the self-adjustment part.
Of course! But self adjustment is to be done before tensioning the cables. We covered that, been said multiple times. After self adjusting is done (by pressing the pedal) then move to nut and adjust cable tension.

Yes I have said that many times.

Once slack taken out of cables do not touch cable do not touch it again trying to get a certain number of clicks on hand lever.

The old cable on the left is off, it does have a shortened heatshield so its a right hand cable. The new left going on is shorter in length than the old one but not enough to level up the equalizer bar in the cabin most likely.

I wonder if the broken bracket shown still attached to the old cable has allowed the cable to have a shorter path, will that happen? It is still working but in poor condition. Its also not the same brand as the old right hand one i took off. I bought the car with this problem and it seems a previous mechanic has had a go at fixing it...:)

seriously I have written several times stating its not overall cable length that matters for balance but that each cable inner length minus its outer length is the same for both cables.

You could have a 1metre cable and a 8 metre cable but as long as inner minus outer lengths the same it wouldn't matter

No, it won't have a shorter path. The only important fixation point is the last fixation just before the drum. In between the lever and that last fixation, the path of the cable doesn't really matter, since the cable travels inside its hull.

I know, forgive me, i find it difficult to understand this, above all else! :)
