You are def going to need a new right hand cable it could be big cause of problems. Looks like outer has failed creating lot of friction between inner and outer stopping cable retracting
Nah bit of surface rust that is. Grow a pair AnthonyIf thats the case then i've got to detach the brake cable at these two points;

How do i detach the brake cable at the rear axle? Its so rusty and thin i'm highly likely to destroy it

This bracket is held in place by one rusty bolt, how do i not break the head off that bolt?
Well OK, so how do i detach the brake cable at the rear axle? I can't see what it is i'm supposed to do? Is it threading through there? Or is there a hidden clip? Anyone know?
I see, that makes senseNo clips it "just" pulls out of hole in back plate after inner un hooked from shoe
The other supports are obvious when you get proper look, they usually are c shape outer presses into
First thing is to soak it in 'plus gas' loads of times. then, I would leave overnight, and then redo again, maybe twice more. Possibly a little heat from a paint stripper gun on low setting. VERY GENTLY try to see if it will move with a socket or ring spanner. (try not to use open ended or an adjustable, as these only give grip on 2 sides of the bolt, possibly leading to corners rounding. Socket or ring will give grip on all six faces. ) If no joy, try the plus gas again. Then later try heat.If thats the case then i've got to detach the brake cable at these two points;

Might take several attempts, and some time, but hopefully it will move.
REMEMBER 'Yoda mikes' words. 'being heavy handed is not a virtue here, too much use of the force it is'
Unclip from bracket without undoing bolt leave bracket in place or am i missing something?
I was assuming it wouldn't slide out of this bracket;

But now you're saying it will, i will certainly try to slide it out, that would make life easier lol.
I see now, in that case i'll pull it towards the drum brake and it should loosen up and i can then take it out. Will be interesting lolFrom photo you can see metal of bracket c shape not fully encircling cable
Righto, sound advice.As Jack says those rusty mounting brackets you may be able to leave in place and with a bit of oil prise the cables out of them from the C shape and maybe do the same with the new ones. It may help if you look at the design of the new ones to see what we are saying.
Nothing to lose by trying and if you slap enough oil around it will help the bolts if they have to be undone.
Don't forget the photos so you know how the good side is working , just in case.Righto, sound advice.
I'll be taking a look inside the drums before i do anything, it won't surprise me if one of the adjusters has a problem. Its possible i'll be fixing a couple of problems. Will see![]()
Righto. I know you're one step ahead of me and know something important, but i've no idea what it is and i'll just take the pictures lolDon't forget the photos so you know how the good side is working , just in case.![]()
It's always easier when you have done it many times before and know what to expect.Righto. I know you're one step ahead of me and know something important, but i've no idea what it is and i'll just take the pictures lol
I get a lot of surprises while fixing cars...something like "why did this fall off?" and "why did this break?" lolIt's always easier when you have done it many times before and know what to expect.![]()
It's the hammer "rash" and why is my black greasy hand dripping red, these things happen.I get a lot of surprises while fixing cars...something like "why did this fall off?" and "why did this break?" lol
