Just shows how out of touch I am, many of my cars have cost less than that over the years.

If all the bolts undid nicely and you had the use of a ramp, probably less than an hour, but I am not saying a garage would quote you that, bolts often seize and a job can take much longer.

I've seen the photos. Your silencer (box) is in the middle, photo 3 in your post #24. Nothing wrong there. Everything is ok, like everyone told you.
