Engine conversion

What engine will go into my mk2 punto sporting? Standard engine is the 1.2 16v, want something bigger if possible?

Punto HGT 1.8 16V 130BHP engine for sure as the Punto MkI HGT was a standard production model.

Fitting the engine will probably not be your major problem. ECU and Key Code Unit issues might be a major issue.

Or just buy a road worthy HGT for about £500.

There are a lot of differences in the brakes of an HGT much bigger and discs all round, the suspension is firmer and designed to carry the extra weight and performance. The gear box is different the electronics throughout the car are different different body computer and dial set up etc etc

By the time you've converted a 1.2 you could have bought a couple of HGTs without any hassle.

:yeahthat: you'll be wasting your time converting as there are still some good HGTs about for pocket money. I mean if you fancy it just for fun then by all means but plenty have tried and a lot just give up and end up with a half finished car that no one wants

If you can find a complete donor the MkII Punto can take a 16V Coupe' Turbo engine with a few mod's.

But I'd rather keep the Coupe'. It's a better car, appreciating as they get rarer, less faff and classic insurance.
