What am I doing wrong

Only ones in black is free

Cable should work with alfaobd free to read the ABS code

I have used a similar cable to clear an airbag code on a panda

Unfortunately it's not a program I have used on a laptop

First we need to make sure the drives for the cable are installed correctly

Go into device manager and look at

Ports com and lpt

Some instructions here link below

Alfaobd doesn't appear to support ABS over KKL cable, looks like needs to be ELM?

Let's have a recap of all the symptoms and what's been tried

Start stop has never worked so is likely to be a separate issue,

The ABS, ELD, Hill Hold error started mid journey

Has it ever gone off, since it failed or is it a hard fault

Was the earth under the battery tray ever checked ?

What we know

The shift lights work, clutch switch is probably okay
new battery, same
New brake switch, same

Do you know if the rear ABS sensors of a standard 0.9 twinair Panda would fit my 4x4? I can't find one that says suitable for the 4x4.
the 4x4 uses a different part number, what the differences are I don't know

Yes original was EFB.

The only thing I’ve had is replaced the rear disks a few months ago,I’ve seen a couple of mentions of sensors causing potential issues but I can’t see anything I may have touched. Really not sure what else to test.
So it was running fine for a couple of months after and failed mid drive,

Worth doing a visual inspection but doubt there's any connection to the work carried out

Also worth unplugging each connector, and plugging it back in, checking the wires haven't been damaged by twig or similar

The earths look okay, I’m not sure what it would look like if it wasn’t though.

The sensors also look okay and connected, again not sure what would have changed. Which bit/where would be worth cleaning to see if anything is failing due to that?
I can’t see why they would randomly fail, but the errors suggest SOMETHING ABS related, but no clue what.

A key difference will be that non 4x4 Pandas have rear drum brakes, but the 4x4 uses rear disks. So very likely the ABS sensor has different mounting?

Yes does looks like something brake or power related

Lots of things use the abs

Speedo
Electric power steering
ABS
Hill hold and so on

Some are working some are working fine some are not

Unfortunately, once fixed by accident, it's not diagnosed any further

I know of two battery fixes may or may not have been the fix, one stopped failing two days before the battery was changed, and one had the battery changed, it didn't fix the problem, but the problem went away a few days later, in both cases if the suspect battery was put back into the car and the fault reappear we would know if the battery was indeed real cause

Several more, the threads go dead, we never know what if anything fixed the problem

It's unlikely to be a slightly faulty sensor, as when the car is stationary, and the ignition is switched on, it shouldn't give an error until after you start to move off, then it will see the speed difference

.it will detect an open or short at power on

@Herts Hillhopper @koalar Local garage did a scan, it's a rear ABS sensor failure. None auto parts online appears to have a suitable part in stock (I'm guessing no longer made?). Hopefully it is this and not the magnetic disk thing in the hub.
I can only find a few parts on ebay, some say suitable for 4x4 some say not (but both look identical).
Reckon this will be suitable?

If it fits the diesel 4x4, surely it must fit the petrol 4x4.

Great - shows the benefit of reading the fault codes :) But, did they tell you which side?

The magnetic ring 'can't' fail -- it's either there, or missing. But the sensor can stop working, and is very easy to damage (including when fitting a new one)

As to whether that's the correct part or not, I can't tell you. But, another interesting thing in top menu of this forum is access to ePER -- the Fiat parts catalogue, where you can look up the part number and find out. If I'm reading it correctly (and I hesitate because altough the description says Twin Air 4x4, which has to mean disk brakes, the diagram shows drums) the part number is 51900397 (from here https://eper.fiatforum.com/en/Drawings/Detail/F/F/GIN/33/331/2/70/0/SubSubGroup?MVS=31917D001470), which is different to the part number you had on your link.

Yep rear left.
Thanks for the catalogue link, that seems to match another part on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186176158232 . Looks more expensive for an image that looks identical to the cheaper one, but seems fairly reassuring it should be the correct part, and hopefully will resolve the issue.

Any advice on fitting? The garage said to be careful as if it snaps you have to remove the bearing, and being a 11 year old car it's probably going to be tough. They estimated £60 to fit if I supplied the part.
They did said it would need clearing also so might be best with them, though they did scan it for free!

Its not the sort of thing I'd wan't to be doing myself: its a key, safety critical part and needs to be done right (I'm competent with the spanners, and have tackled the 'difficult' jobs on the 4x4 Panda such diesel glow plugs -- see https://www.fiatforum.com/guides/replacing-glow-plugs-2018-panda-multijet.901/ -- but I'd not do that one). £60 to them, plus £35ish for the part = sorted :)

Yeah I'm inclined to agree, I did save money replacing rear brakes myself (maybe the course of this ironically, although 4 weeks and probably ~100 miles later), so I think I will. Tough luck on a fun little car (sounding rather entertaining with the custom stainless exhaust), and hard to not be put off it!
