I work with muslims every day. it would be damn tricky to work in the NHS and not have contact with muslims. There were 2 muslims at my work's xmas dinner in December 
But to be fair I guess they may not be representative of British muslims as a whole.
I guess my point would be that muslims have no compulsion to integrate. It's their personal choice. No doubt much of the bad feeling towards Islam in the UK is the result of terrorist attrocities, and that's not something anybody can afford to bury their head in the sand about. The PC brigade seem too ready to forget that the vast majority of terror attacks across the globe these days are "justified" by a warped interpretation of the Koran. People are scared for a reason.
However this cuts both ways, and if I was a muslim in an area like Oldham where they have voted in BNP councillors, I'd probably want the security of being with people who shared my culture.
Like I said earlier, it's a vicious cirlce, but if we fall into the trap of generalising, we risk alienating the vast majority of muslims who just want peace and quiet.
