I will copy & paste his post as that forum currently has a software fault which occasionally results in random people being temporally banned until they clear their cookies

The water pump on the 2.3JTD is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle and unless there are obvious signs that something is amiss, it should be left well alone. It is a much bigger job than you might think and access is extremely difficult. The fuel pump has to be removed and if any of the bolts are problematic it will require the engine to be removed to remedy. I have only ever changed one and it was because the engine was already out. No problems so far and many of our vehicles do 250,000 miles before we move them on.
It is vital that the tensioners are changed as they are much more likely to wear than the belt itself. The screw for the adjustable tensioner should also be replaced and this is not normally part of the after-market kits.

Has anyone had a water pump failure with any Ducato and at what milage.
Or do all replace pump with cam belt?
Is it necessary to replace a low milage pump (8k miles) with first belt.
hi not a failure but a wobble on the exterior spindle , the mechanic said as did Australia's NRMA, the pump needs replacing , does else know about this issue, mine is a 3 litre long wheel base, having traveled 279,000 km

hi i have a Ducato LB 3 litre van , done 270,000 km manuel , i love it , i adore my Ducato baby, the spindle wheel on the outside of the water pump , which the belt goes over is wobbly a bit , the mechanics and all advice I have had is to get it changed over so a new water pump is in it, Does anyway know how to this , to remove the old water pump and put in a new one , without removing the engine ?? I was told it may be possible to turn the engine back so your hands can fit in the area? can anyone give advice please

Had my cambelt and waterpump replaced on X250, 35000 miles, about 500 miles ago by independent garage. Assume they used 'pattern' parts and I'm now really paying for it. Stuck in Spain as I think the waterpump has failed with possible engine damage. £££££ Few tales of plastic impellers failing. Fiat OEM seem quite good and reliable.

Not many responces but generaly looks like only replace if needed and stay away from cheap pattern parts.
I am looking at a third change of cambelt on my 2.8jtd, as due to relatively low mileage I adopted a six year period, rather than the five year norm. The water pump will not be changed, and neither will the tension and guide rollers, as last few years mileage has been minimal.

Is it the water pump, or the fitting?
Big area of mating surface to clean with very difficult access.
And I have heard of rusted up bolts being sheared in removing the old water pump, engine out to replace, attempt to drill out the broken bolt, drill slipped, knackered engine block.
To save all that extra work it must be tempting to put the pump on with a bolt missing?
