Ok Mr car just went bang and wouldnt move in any gear.

recovery guy comes out. And says he never seen this happen before.

My drive shaft was ripped clean out. So he shows me under bonnet and can se it hanging low gease all over the place.

Any ideas how this could of happened.

I had a new clutch 2 months ago aswell.

got big wheels??

driving over enthusiastically

my punto did this when i had 17's on, 1st the diff then the shaft, depends what the weaker part is at the time;)

I had a Fiat Stilo 1.6 16v and got rid of it because of all the problems. my Gearbox bugged up. Oil all over the place. just setting off in 1st gear. Had to replace the driveshaft, gearbox and clutch. It was fecked. What out for another clunk it could be the gearbox next as they is a pin that comes loose and then bang the gearbox oil pours out.

bad experience then(y)

to be fair, thats not just stilos, but all fiats, your boud to get big **** ups in mass produced cars, some bigger than others, i needed a new engine after 2weeks, because some silly beggers forgot to change the oil from flushing oil to normal oil and sold it with flushing oil in, it just evaporated, and bye bye engine.

1 rebiult box
2 new boxes

but she still going strong despite being down on power.

as for cost, err pass, but must be in to the multiple hundreds:eek:

if its lowered too, and havnt changed the camber of the wheels then this will also put MASSIVE strain on the drive shafts as there at dodgy angles. If not forget the above

If it's just grease, and you've said that it is, then it'll be driveshaft pulled out and the fact you had a clutch change recently then the driveshaft may not have been reinstalled correctly and you might have some comeback

If there's loads of gearbox oil with chunks of gearbox lying in the road then it would be exploded gearbox/diff and you wouldn't be able to select any gears but you say
"My car just went bang and wouldnt move in any gear".

So I hope it's the first one:)

the 2nd one is when i found out my punto had a theoretical top speed of 150 mph, put it in 5th put foot down and thats where it went:D i crashed the car and when i got it back the repairer forgot to include a stupid 50p clip and after too hours the d/shaft popped out:mad:

Yep ..stilo's and punto's have gearbox implosions big time.. something I am aware of might or might not happen to my panda as well..on the 1.6 the most recent casualty was roy who ended up replacing the box himself and stripping the old one to see what had happened..he found that a pin hadnt been installed correctly in the diff and when he fitted the new box in he added a tack weld to make sure the new one didnt budge..we could all say well its a fiat but at the end of the day its the last thing you expect to happen ..never Saw this on the old time cars that argo and I and a few of the other old timers here had ..gearbox explosion never happened back in the dark ages..:)

Inner joint cant come out without something going wrong, are you sure the gearbox hasnt dropped (gearbox mounting broken) as the driveshaft is longer than the distance between the cv joint and the inner shaft cup.

I will add 2 extra pics in abit I think something has snapped off

And some how the Exhaust has blown off aswell. at the front

Had something similar happen in a Rover 216 once. The driveshaft snapped in two, so I tracked down a replacement and fitted it myself. The new driveshaft was fine for all of two weeks, when it suddenly popped out.

Turns out, I'd fitted the oil seal the wrong side, so the driveshaft wasn't sited properly, the first time I tried to do a quick pull away.... POP!

Towed it to a trustworthy garage, and for the princely sum of £20, the owner spent 2 hours re-filing the spline, fitted it and let me collect out of hours!

deffinatly looks like an engine mount has broken then.

not really mate, engine looks fine, not dipping low and not resting on anything by the looks of it, look at the burn marks round the edges, looks like its just burnt through.

the flexi on the stilo aint the strongest in the world;)

doesnt mean it would be leaning on anything, it would just mean under load the engine moves slightly, giving extra stress on the driveshafts/exhaust.
