I still have to test the engine diagnostic software so sorry about taking so long on that. I have so much to do on the B and so little free time at the mo with work. When I fit the new exhaust I will also paint the sump black with caliper paint and replace the underside exhaust main heat shield with a new one and shine it up before fitting. I have the B's MOT at the end of the month so need to get her put back together ASAP.

For god's sake Doc take it easy when you do get the b back on the road, with the number being hit at the moment that stat's seem to be stacked against us - I would hate you to have to start again!!

The weekend at last so its time to crack on with a few other mods and repairs. Below are a few pics of the rad mounts now being painted red and the inner wing under the header tank being repaired and painted. Look no rust :) and I only needed a small amount of filler.

I have to clear the wing and the mounts today and fingers crossed I can polish them up tomorrow morning and then get things put back together.

KC called today to say he is out working on his B and so is LRB so a full on Barchetta day all round. (y) Keep at it lads (y) look forward to the posts and pics.

Thats it for the day, the B is packed up until I next get some free time. Another few jobs ticked off but also a few more added hehehe. All the rusty mounts and bolts are gone and so has all the rust from the front end and header tank :D.

Well I am off indoor skydiving tonight with a friend at 7pm so best jump in the shower and get shot of all the B grime from today.

More to come soon. (y)

Na only feeling my way in the dark m8. No formal mechanics training or anything like that.

All I do is:

1. Look up as much info online as you can about the job that you will be doing.

2. Think each step through as best as poss before you start.
3. Take your time and dont rush.

4. If you get a little stuck dont panic and rush, take 20 mins off and go watch TV or something. (Rusty bolts rule)

5. Enjoy the job you are doing, it's saving you loads of cash and you are learning for the next time you have to do the job.

Spray painting rules are:

1. Take your time
2. Keep everything as clean as poss
3. Take your time
4. Prep is everything so detail, detail, detail.
5. Take your time
6. The painting part is only 15% of the job when painting.

I am still working on the above hehehe

I have found you can get a good paint job from a spray can so below are a few tips I have found that help.

1. Filler primer is great stuff and helps loads. 3-4 coats 10 mins apart
2. After filler primer dust over a light coat of any old spray paint you have
3. Sand down with say 800 -1000 paper and keep an eye out for low or high spots
4. Grey primer 2-3 coats 10 mins apart.
5. Place your colour spray can in hot water for 5 mins just before you start painting.
6. When you first go to start using a spray can spray 5 sec of paint into the air to clear it.
7. Get a little water sprayer from you local DIY shop and spray water into the air and onto the floor a min or so before you start painting. (Keeps the dust off your paint)
8. Take your time!
9. You are looking for an even coat of colour

Every time I paint something I get a little better and so can you. Its not rocket science or a black art just practise.

Painting things yourself saves you the most amount of money over most car jobs so give it a go!!

Ps Dont start with a bonnet or wing as these are the things you paint after you have been painting for a long time hehe

I think I can pick up a new rad for £140 so if anyone knows a place thats selling them for less please let me know. (y)

I have started polishing up my engine cover tonight but as I painted it twice over the last few years I had to get all the paint off first thus making this job even longer :bang: Its slow going but I should have it finished by the end of the week. (y)

So I need to fit the PS headlight light back in, fit the stainlees exhaust manifold and replace the stuffed radiator. I need to rub down and paint the charcoal filter bracket before putting the wheel arch trim back in. All in all it looks like I have my work cut out over the next few weeks.

I :worship: to your handywork Doc, you really are the king of the B (y)

:yeahthat:

Too bad, though, that he most likely doesn't remember what it's like to drive it :p I'm sure that I've driven my crashed B (back and forth to the garage) more the last 3-4 months than he has in the same period :)

OMG doc!!!! I knew you had a pristine B with lots of nice mods, but b*gger me - I had no idea it was quite so pampered.

I'm paranoid enough with my average B when driving behind a truck or parking next to any car with kids toys or rubbish in it... I'd have a nervous breakdown if I had your car. Don't know how you do it, but glad that you do

Thanks everyone (y) she is coming along now after a good few hours spanner time.

Some good news is my stainless sports supersprint manifold has just turned up so now its time to order the gaskets from Fiat. Idont think I will get a chance to fit it before I go waywith work again at the weekend

I still have to order my new radiator but I will hold off until pay day me thinks as I am skint after my holiday. (n)

I love looking at those pictures. That is going to be the cleanest B ever. Were the chrome tanks easy to fit or should I say, did they screw onto existing mounts? They are such a nice upgrade.

I had the tanks made to replace the old plastic OEM set so no problems fitting them. The new stainless header tank only had one mount at the front so I had to grind off the other mount that was not used and fill and paint it as you can see it the pics.

I still have to have the ABS tank made but that will be later in the year.
