I dont think he's a less well off 18 year old student... Anyway fair enough if you dont agree with it (y) lol. What if a Fiat was detailed like that. Would it be a different story? ;) ;)

no

you wash a car to get the crap off it

if you love it lots you might give a polish

doing what Astraman has done is just nucking futs

i think your getting all defencive because your a prospective VXR owner, and for some reason your getting offended :chin:

Im not getting defensive about the car itself at all - if it was a bloody Saxo Id say the same. Usually fellow car nuts at least admire what people do to their cars and I admire what he's done, Astra VXR or not.

Prospective...?? ;)

well we think its sill, the people on the forum on the link thought it silly, my mates think it silly, the people on Autocar think it silly

your the only one :p

on detailing,

at the weekend, @ autoglym, i spent over 14 hours detailing my car.

it was the most stressfull and tiring weekend ever. for my fast car shoot all the car got was a wash, but this was a whole new legue.

the cars had to be absolutely immaculate. the atmosphere was tense and the thought of being judged under such harsh conditions was so terrifying.

the judges were so hard to please, they were looking for any sign of dirt or dust, to the extent of checking under rubber seals and in the tyre treads for dust. i became very obsesive compulsive in a very short space of time. dust would appear before your eyes that wasnt really there, like macbeth's out dam spot out!

it was so hard to compete with a daily driver who had just driven 300 miles, with trailor queens, or affectionatly known as trailor trash lol!

i can now completely understand what this guys was feeling, i know its hard to believe but what he has done makes so much sense now!

the judges were checking paint with uv torches looking for imperfections. the cars in the autoglym were cleaner than cars from the factory, my car has never been as clean in its life.

when i walked outside the arena its made me realise how false the atmosphere in there was, made me realise there was a real world lol!!

one of the judges owned an xr3i that was a multi award winning concours car, there wasnt a single spec of dust on it. it had been sprayed on a spit roast, his bolt heads all lined up and the writing on his tyres lined up perfectly with the writing on his alloys.

he said to me, that concours is an illness, once your in there, in that position you cant stop polishing.

the guys next to me with th scooby spent hours polishing there mud flaps, seems funny but very ironic!

i spent hours upon hours in my interoir, marticulously detailing every last area. but you know what, i missed the dust under the clips that hold your sunvisors on, i was gutted, ( still won tho lol)

in the end i was cleaning with cotton buds and tooth pics, i never though id see the day.

sorry for the depth here, but i truely do feel i view cars in a total different light now, it was the steepest learning curve ive ever had. the things the judges made you aware of, and once your aware of them and how to spot them........they never dissappear.............just more cleaning.

i feel for this guys..... but you know what, id do it to.

My car thought it was on cloud 9 this weekend. It got a wash AND the rubbish emptied out of the footwells! Lucky it!

shell is doing a free upgrade car wash thing, so it got a silver wash, instead of its usual bronze one, and i went and bought some microfibre cloths for the windows

our local BP does 1/2 price car washes between 7pm and 7am.
so mine gets washed on the way to work @ 4am :D

my car is being used a spare parts container at the moment, and the bumpers / wings are a bit oily

i should finish it, and then i can get it out the garage to clean it.
