Mobile phones are being discarded or sold before personal details including Pin numbers and passwords are erased, data security specialists have said.
Bank account details, credit card numbers and social networking login details were all found during spot checks of secondhand phones by CPP.
Old handsets and sim cards were on sale for an average of £47, it found.
It urged people to do more than just manually delete data, such as destroying a sim card.
Other tips included restoring factory settings, deleting back-ups and logging out of social networking sites.

I wipe second hand memory cards for a mate before he sells them on, you'd be amazed what people leave on them.

You can get that software that undeletes everything on flash memory. Some dude buys cards to look for neked pics of the owner or mrs etc and posts them on a web site.
Also a Guy from another forum im on bought a 1TB external drive that was full to the brim of the finest quality porn. Needless to say he had to buy another drive for the original purpose he wanted it for.

Several years ago I was pretty down about life and a friend of mine decided to cheer me up so she sent me a fair few videos that were of her entertaining herself in the most delightful way ever.

I got bored of the phone thought I'd cleared it off and gave it to my dad.

Much to his wife's suprise she found the videos whilst showing my dad how to use it. Needles to say he got the telling off of a lifetime and I got a nodd of approval from the old man!

The hard drive one is a gem. That being said, I would never think twice about not deleting any data from my phone. Especially when all you need to do is press a button in the setting once, how on earth could that be beyond the reach of some people?

Therein is the problem - in many cases that just deletes the referance to files on the memory / device and doesn't actually delete the data, freely available utils will scan the entire memory and "undelete" the data....

I sold a Samsung E900 on eBay and the guy sent me a message saying I had great boobs. Guess I forgot to wipe that folder off.

And while we're at it, there's no Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy either.

Slow news day?
