Technical CV joint issue?

I just replaced the gearbox mount and have inspected the aluminium cradle, it is solid.
Weirdly enough when I took the old mount out and loosened the three nuts from the left side engine mount I could easily move the engine but it gets back to it's position. Used a lever to move the engine far right (car off side) as possible and peeked over to see the dog mount still sitting on a angle to the left. (..although less but still not as straight like the one in Jock's picture).
I have noticed when working so far on all related to the mounts that all bolts&nuts were tight but no need to break them loose. obviously someone has been through this before but didn't replace anything.
Took the car for a short test drive and it feels better, the grinding sound when cornering right under load is still noticable but nowhere near it was before.
I think it would be interesting to have another Panda to the side for comparising, could it be that for example a drive shaft has been replaced (to short near side or to long off side)? Or I'm I overthinking now?

P.s. looking at the heavily corroded state of the front suspension and it's fasteners it hasn't been dismantled for long while..

has this gone with the new gearbox mount
Yes, it only still happens when backing up on my steep drive. I do know now what causes this.. it's the aluminium dog bone frame hitting the chassis bracket because it is sitting at a angle.
(Check the picture in post #16, the dog bone alu frame sits very close to the chassis bracket)

try taking a photo with the camera on the ground pointing straight up so we can see the angles

its hard to tell with different camera angles which part is out of alignment

Yes I can understand, it's only easy to see when with the vehicle...
I try to demonstrate with the red line. If I would undo the bolt/nut (red arrow) the dog bone will return within the straight red line as it designed to be.

That’s quite helpful I will see if I can get some measurements. I don’t drive the Panda and it’s not here at the moment

Let’s see if the engine is in the right place or if the bracket underneath is out

Here’s how mine sits. Ruler in inches

So yesterday I got finally to change the rear engine stabiliser mount, weird thing is that the mount get pulled to the near side and the alluminium cast is rubbing against the underbody. The old one has been partly "grinded" away (which has caused the noise during reversing) but I thought it would be because of worn rubber bushings.
When slightly tighten the bolt at the car side it looks there's approx 15mm space between the mount and gearbox end. As the bracket is welded to the underbody this means the engine sits misaligned? I was first wondering if it used to have a extra spacer but the bolt length would not allow it.
The dimensions of the new one are similar to the old one but that's not a guarantee I'm using the right one...View attachment 400939
How are you getting on with this? I had a look at the O/S - driver's side - engine mount on mine compared to the picture you posted of your's and the spacing looks the same. I mean there's no obvious displacement in your picture which might indicate your engine is more towards the N/S - passenger's side - of the engine bay.

Looking at the picture you've posted here it does look like the engine is lying towards the N/S though doesn't it? I don't know if it would be any use to you, as you're not exactly just round the corner from me, with me being not far from the Leith docks in Edinburgh, but you would be welcome to bring the car round so we could put them side by side, jack them up and compare the two. Mine is a 1.2 so there may be small detail differences but in most respects, and especially the mounts, I would think they are the same? Always assuming you think the car wouldn't be damaged by driving it through to here.

Anyway, the offer is there, if you feel you'd like to come please do let me know as we'd have to arrange a time that didn't clash with our childminding (grandchildren)
Kind regards
Jock

Apologies for my late response, I was struck by severe back pain yesterday afternoon.
Not been able yet to open the bonnet and measuring things..
But many thanks for the effort, as soon I feel better I get out and check.

Many thanks for your offer! Yes would be great to come over and compare the engines/bays, think this will be the best way to rule out any doubs about misalignment.
I'm currently struggling to sit and using my keyboard so will respond properly as soon I feel better.
Again many thanks for your offer!

You're welcome. Tuesdays are wall to wall grandchildren morning to night! most other days are "manageable" so as long as we rule out Tuesdays and maybe Wednesday mornings - because we are "recovering" on Wednesday mornings! - we should be able to get something arranged to suit.

I haven't yet tried to do a private message using the new forum setup so I'll maybe try to send you one just for us both to get a practice doing a message? OK with you?
Regards
Jock
