Coronavirus - The Thread :(

my grandma is quite ill in hospital. sadly with her time in hospital she has contracted the dreaded virus.

they found out 4 days ago and only just told us.

I'm sorry to hear that mate.

Looking for a silver lining, but if you're going to catch the coronavirus, you'd think getting it in a hospital means you have the best chance of survival...

In these circumstance I always feel so totally inadequate and wish I could think of something more supportive to say but can I just say that I'm so sorry to hear this and to say you are in our thoughts.
Kindest regards
Jock

They do indeed mean Ipswich and Colchester and when they say the trust which runs, they mean both, so if 5 people died it could mean 2 at Ipswich and 3 at Colchester or vice versa. It’s a bit weird as they are very different hospitals in different counties but they are counting them as one hospital.

Thanks, with low rate in suffolk and high in essex would be interesting to know the 2 border hospitals numbers separately.

Just to lift the spirits somewhat, my wife has been keeping in touch with a lot of her relatives lately for obvious reasons, she has quite a large number of kinsfolk. Online & telephone. She lately got in touch with her Grandaunt who recently turned 100 by phone. Long conversation ensued & once off the phone my wife was in fits of laughter telling me that Grandaunt was saying how everything is done online these days, the only time I'm online she said is when I'm hanging up my knickers....:D

Are hospitals still using the aircon and do the filters filter out covid 19?

the majority of areas in a hospital don't have any aircon.

Places like theatres will have and intensive care.

If you know ipswich the Garrett Anderson building all has aircon but there are theatres on the top floor, intensive care and A&E all in that building so the filters are very high grade (from what I understand).

regeneration air-conditioning has various systems in place to catch and kill all known Aliens.
The air is first filtered to catch larger particles, dust debris etc then it is chilled down to below 6degC this kills a large amount of bugs that are present in everyday life, then the air is hit with ultra-violate light this kills a high proportion of small and micro-bugs including Corona virus (however it may not kill 100%) the air then passes through heating elements that heat the air back to at least 16deg c this phase fries the remaining Aliens. When recirculating the air is passed through time and again and gets 'cleaner' with every circuit, however most regen aircon systems have a 10% make up of fresh air to help keep co2 levels down.
regular cleaning of the pre filter is needed to allow the rest of the vent system to work correctly.
The recirc and 10% makeup is why cruise liners had difficulty in isolating the unlucky with covid and how the ships became a breeding ground in close confines, it was a stupid idea trying to contain the virus on ships it would have been better to get the infected off ASAP, which the authorities realised to late for the unfortunate.

Think of the pollen filter in those cars that have them, if you don't change them regularly the environment inside the vehicle becomes a breeding ground for all sorts of beasts.

Interesting information about the aircon' s recycling process, but isn't it how it works in every (aircon'ed) houses, all doors and windows closed the 10% makeup coming from natural ventilation (no house is totally sealed) ?

... the air then passes through heating elements that heat the air back to at least 16deg C, this phase fries the remaining Aliens ...

Hmmm, killing Alien @ 16° C ? They must surely come from a very cold planet !!

Hmmm again, isn't it the initial idea of a filter to keep unwanted things from spreading where they could be harmful ? Second idea being to clean/replace that filter with proper disposal @ "safe" intervalls (which unlikely
happens with pollen filters) ...

Normal aircon in house or cars doesn't have UV or heating elements (apart from the heater in the car which is not used in hot weather) and is not a controlled enviroment aircomn in these areas is just designed to control the air temperatuture.
I did say to change the pollen filter regularly or it becomes a breeding ground which, once the filter is overcome will polute the inside of the vehicle.

The regeneration circuit I have written about is for controlled or sealed room enviroment such as labs, theaters etc. (Air Treatment Units (A.T.U.) which on the 10% fresh air side will have a fine filter fitted)
consider the bugs have been frozen, then zapped with UV, anything remaining is now weak and a blast from hot wire elements is enough to kill the majority off.

It may be bad here but be thankful you don`t live in Brazil.

Just seen the news!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God help the poor devils. Can`t dig the graves fast enough.

Head Honcho says " so what" nothing we can do...................

Wish I lived in New Zealand. Lot like Scotland here BUT with almost no virus.
Sounds like utopia............

Hi All
I have noticed that when on the road that social distancing between cars is evident, I have really noticed that cars are driving further apart!
Luigi

Yeah, roads look like 50ish years ago during petrol crisis ...

BTW, wouldn't it be better to use "physical distancing" instead of "social distancing" ?
I have the feeling that people actually get more social than before (the lockdown), see all people saluting their neigboors, waving each other at supermarket, etc. Or is it only me ??

If anyone is bored ebay now have a new rule Price gouging, if you see ppe over priced you can report as Price gouging.
stops the buggers making too much from a crises. example boxes of gloves that were £5 a box of 100 before people have bought loads and now trying to sell them in lots of 5 pairs for £7

Any crisis will have its carpetbaggers, how much is sold a little (100ml) hydro-alcooholic spray in shops AND pharmacies ? I made my 7 liters own solution (WHO recipe) for a mere 35€, including (normal) profit from the retail shop ...

Had way to long to work on the FIAT Tipo during lockdown only to discover a broken magnet in the dizzy is causing the poor running...Any tips on how to replace the 62mm OD half moon magnet below the pickup?

Sorry but I don't get it: Google doesn't translate correctly (in French) the meaning of "dizzy" (thoughless, careless, rash ...).
Same with " OD " : don't understand it :-(

I'm probably stupid not to understand all the english vocabulary, but sometimes it's not so easy ...

Dizzy = Ignition Distributor.
OD = Outside Diameter.

Oh dear Bernie, this really makes me realize how the years are rolling by. Dizzy was a common term for referring to a distributor in days gone past. I'm now realizing just how long ago it was that distributors (along with their problematic points and condensers - which were actually capacitors anyway so why did we call them condensers?) were the usual way of "doing" High tension electricity.

I'm just off to polish my pipe, button my cardigan and and give my slippers a quick wipe down before relaxing in my bath chair for the afternoon.

Pasadena..as that 'sounds right'.. but of course it isnt.. 'philly..?' )
