Eh? So is two thirds of everyones insurance premium tax, or is it fixed at £40 per person? I didn't even know there was a tax on insurance other than VAT

Dave, I tried, and with my Dad - put it up £50. Cheapest I have so far is a 899 cinq at 550, quotes from 550 for cinq to 620 for 1.9 D (N/A) megane. Will keep all quotes for 3 months and see at Easter :)

Yes but he has driven for 30 years without a crash to his name, has full NCB.... you would think it might lower it.

Anyway; i tried too with my gf and it didn't help.

My cousins have their mother on their insurance and it halved. My Aunt has a full driving licence and no fines etc, but has not driven since the day she passed her test 40 years ago!

Insurance is a joke. One tip is instead of just accepting the computer-basher's "Computer says no" approach is to ask to speak to one of their proper brokers. That tactic worked for me at Christmas when I needed to get my mate (only 17) on my insurance for a couple of weeks. They wen't from "Computer says no" to yes it can be done and for only £20!

Sorry to go back to this, but when did young people stop being able to get Classic Car Insurance. I had a mate whose first car at 17 was an old Alfa Spider and he had CCI on it, which saved him £300 at the time. The downside was that he was restricted to only being able to do 2500 miles per year or something like that.

Paul if that Cinq is only 15 miles away, you could cycle there.

There is NO VAT on insurance, just a flat rate of Insurance Premium Tax @ 5% [although certain insurances like travel may attract 17.5%] :)

Most classic policies are restricted to drivers aged 21+ or 25+. I could insure the Capri for just over £600 a year (with £500 voluntary excess, mind) on a classic policy from Lancaster, sadly thats £600 more than I can afford!!

Thanks for the info. Do you know if they still have low mileage restrictions on the Classis policies?

The quote I got was for 2000 miles per year; I don't know what the upper limit is but I'd assume they'll give you as much as you want and charge you accordingly.
