Insurance group 1.Got a quote for cinq today as im changing insurence people, wit elephant, being 19, fully comp by myself and all mods decleard (Performance exhaust, performance manifold, bucket seats, tinted windows, body kit, side skirts, alloy wheels, induction kit and stereo equipment) all for.........

That £16 cheaper im paying at the mo and thats without any of the mods decleared, Third party, fire and theft and on my mums insurence.
Im well chuffed wit that considering i was getting around £1200 with nothing decleared.
Bare in mind tho, the quote is saved untill i am 20, and said the policy would be taken out wen 20, dunno if it actually made any difference.

If only it was a few months ago, you could have had my old Safrane, I gave to a breaker for £25.00 and it still ran fine, was only a 94 model, I just can't be arsed with trying to sell cars that aren't worth much. Again, insurance would have been an issue, but then you would have saved the purchase price.
Have you thought of going for something really old. You can get good examples of some old cars at reasonable prices. They may not drive as well or be as comfortable, but you can get classic car insurance for silly money and they can be cheap and easy to work on if anything does go wrong.

Also just wondering what your abilities are, as far as working on cars is concerned. For example, is it worth getting something like a cheap example of say a Mini because it's got a rusted out wing. You could get a Mini fromt wing from a scrap yard for about £10, but it would knock a lot more than £10 off the price, so what are your bodywork skills like.

Why do you think the Cinq is the same weight as a Uno it's half the size!!! The cinq's gotta be a lot lighter.
Get a mk2 uno (1990 on) because they don't rust. Or save up and buy a mk 1 punto. Meanwhile on the subject of insurance I'm getting my own at Easter, I've been quoted £550 (£300 excess mind) by Direct Line. I'm well pleased with that, I'm only 20 and the car is 2003.

The later ones (ie K/L reg onward) do seem to be more resistant to tinworm though, so maybe its just the earlier Mk2's that dissolved.

Paul, you should buy the Uno from myunolhdizdabest or whatever his screen name is, recent MOT failure for some pretty easy rectifable reasons, remove sticker then i'm sure someone like you would be impregnable to jibes about the paint work!

Hmm ok that's a bit strange mine was 1990 G reg and it was immaculate, it even said in the handbook Galvanised body so no rust - and there was never a hint of it. Mate had a K reg one and that certainly didn't rust either.
Neofolis, as Paul is under 25 I dont think he could get classic cover. All cars rust eventually, despite the Tipos and Cinqs being galvanised they still rust. Ive seen Cinqs with horrendous rust in the boot floor area, and my Tempra had a rusty inner sill.

My M-reg uno barely had any rust on top (maybe 3 small patches) but the underneath? wohh... it wasn't anywhere near as good.
I was under the impression the difference in mass was very small,
According to parkers cinq weighs in at 735kg, they don't carry much data for the uno anymore.
My Grandpa doesn't want anything to do with it so it will have to wait until around Easter now

Blimey. Thats good. I am 20 and the only people I could get to insure me for less than a grand was NU.Prudential wanted £2400!!!!

I once went over a bump in a road a bit fast and literally took off. When I landed one of my arches was a bit rusty, I didn't know this at the time, and the whole of the rear arch gave way, instead of the spring and shock compressing when it landed the arch just wasn't strong enough and it fell to pieces. I had to buy a new one and get it welded in and painted, it cost me a small fortune at the time. And now it's just failed its MOT because the other side is dead rusty and the floor pan has gone rotten underneath, plus the electrics have started playing up as well.
On the other hand though I had an older one before that and it didn't have any rust on it whatsoever.

Ouch bad luck, well as I said it seems a bt strange some rust and some don't! Maybe made in different places or something?!
The engines fine though, I'm contemplating whether to buy another Uno turbo and use my old one as spares or putting the engine my Cinq.
I'd have just scrapped it but it's got a brand new turbo, camshaft, clutch and loads more things I cant think of on it.
I might even strip it and sell the parts.
I'm going a bit off topic here though.

IIRC my Uno 45 was about 730kg so pretty much the same as a Cinq. And it seems the Uno build quality was a bit hit and miss! Mine must've been a Friday afternoon car as the sills were so rusty that I managed to put the jack through it once so Paul, if you do go for an Uno, make sure you get underneath it and give anything that looks even slightly rusty a good poke with a screwdriver!
