General Changing the passenger side headlight bulb

Went to Halfords to get mine done, the guy said no chance take to the dealer.

Arnold Clark / Fiat did it for free, no charge for builb either, although I was in getting front new brake pads checked.

Hello everyone,

Been reading the thread with interest as I have the passenger side front headlight bulb to replace and a rear fog light bulb to replace before the stilo has its MOT later this month.

I was wondering what the correct bulbs are that I need to get and if there are are any bulb kits available so that I've got a handy stash of them for future use

Any advice much appreciated!

Did the dipped beam about 2 weeks or so ago and took about 40 mins after taking battery out and pushing the battery box to one side, Anyways hit a little deer one night last week and knocked out all the bulbs in the headlight unit, So had to replace the fog, main, dip, indicator and managed it in about 20mins all told.

Found out that the plastic that surrounds the battery is clipped into the tray under battery and you can pull it out and squish it up.

Halfords sell the bulbs ok.

Hmmmm.... maybe they changed the design on the 04 then. :chin:

On mine you need to remove a couple of heavy duty bolts that hold the battery cage to the chassis. It's well worth doing though as you get a lot more room to work in.

Got a bulb kit from halfords took about 30 mins, hands scratched to bits mind and heaven knows how long it would have taken if I hadn't read through this thread first!:)

Obviously depends on which headlamp your changing (main = H1, dipped = H7).

Strongly recommend you use some decent replacements (white +50% or better) too.

I recently changed the drivers side main beamwhich was a doddle. Then the passenger side one went and I naively thought it would be the same until i opened the bonnet.

I followed the battery removal approach and then got at the bulb with some difficulty and changed the main beam bulb. Hardest part was getting the weather cover back in. I thought I had done it.....

Put the battery back in to check, oh dear.... now i have lost indicator, dipped and full. Only one that works is the main beam!!!

I think i must have pulled out a wire somewhere along the lines of the power socket thing to the cluster or the bulbs but i have no idea with wires so am at a loss.

I think im going to resort to taking it to the dealer because I am put off by taking the bumper off....unless there is a bright spark on here that has another idea!?

Any suggestions welcome please!!

is it possible to replace a stilo 3 door stilo passenger headlight with a 5 door, are they the same dimensions and will it fit?

If you can take all the battery out then you can take the front bumper off. It really is that easy (y)

Just remove and re-connect the headlamp connector first to see if that helps :)

Jon.

Thanks for your reply. I had another look tonight and with the help of a voltmeter I have found that the reason all other bulbs (except from main beam) wont work is that they dont have an earth anymore.....!!!

I suppose i might have nicked a cable somewhere along the line but seems strange that the main beam still works.

I heard a rumour that this might be due to taking the battery out, so the computer could be on a basic mode or something, (but that is something random and not sure if its applicable)

Does anyone no why/how there is no earth and how to fix it?

Thanks guys

In italy recently with my stilo 04 multiwagon an autoelectrician
replaced my dipped beam bulb.he put the car on his lift to full height, took the wheel off, peeled the inner lining of the underside of the wing (it clips off and peels back).from there you can reach the rear of the headlight from underneath and change the bulb.all this whilst arguing with the local priest about politics and telling jokes...........hope this helps

Changing mine this weekend :( I'm going for the battery out option as I reckon it's slightly less of a pain in the arse than the bumper !

The wifes had a moist passenger side head light which would have been no good over the winter so I picked up another one from a scrap yard. With only a few tools, think it was a star drive a posi drive and some choice words the bumper was free, didnt take it completely off left it connected at the drivers side but had more than enough room to replace the head light, wish I had changed the bulbs though. Going to get some Osram nightbreakers for it, have them on my accord and they are superb!

Actually think it might be worth changing all the bulbs whilst im there! lol

Dont be put off by the bumper method its not too hard at all

Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone does know where the earth point is for a passenger side headlight. Would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Just to add my experience so far as I am sure this is a current issue, even though this is an old thread.

I noticed last night my passengers side headlight had gone out.

I rung up my local FIAT dealership who quoted me £95.30, which I thought was a wee bit steep. I then drove down to Halfords who on inspection said they couldnt do it as they're not allowed to take out the battery case, or bumper.

I have just spoken to KwikFit who said they could do it for the cost of the bulb £16.70. I mentioned it's a FIAT Stilo and access to the headlight is naff to say the least and he said you may have to leave it with us for a few minutes but we can do it for the price of the bulb.

I will update when I am back from KwikFit!
