Hello everyone,

I have a fiat 500 car from 2008, semi-automatic. I am very happy with it only because I often have a problem, when I drive and press the brake harder, it stops the contact and I can't accelerate anymore, I have to stop and restart the engine. There is a continuous beep and an error on board, I can no longer accelerate and I have to stop urgently.

What can I do about it?

I think he means that the engine stops.
Apparently the clutch doesn't disengage when he applies the brakes and then the engine stalls.
Something could be wrong with the hydraulics pump of the dualogic system.
(especially since he mentioned in another topic that he hears the whirring of the pump when he opens the door.)

Yes I'd gathered that, but it was an opportunity too good to miss up to drop in a 'dad joke' :D (apologies to the OP, I can never resist the opportunity for a 'dad joke')

As for the actual fault, some form of OBD reader (or pref multiecuscan with an appropriate cable on a laptop) will be required for further diagnosis since it could be almost anything, and throwing money at replacing the pump without identifying the logged fault would be a bad idea; could even be something like the engine running too weak or having a leak from the brake servo's vacuum line (the latter caused a similar issue in an old Volvo 144 I owned years ago)

We've got a 2016 semi-auto that we bought 2nd hand last year and it's doing exactly the same - cuts out occasionally when braking. I bought a Bluetooth code reader and an app for my phone but its showing no fault codes. I've replaced the brake light switch and bought a new stop-start battery (as it had the original and wasn't holding charge very well), but the problem is still happening although perhaps not quite as often.

My wife almost had a big accident last week as it cut out when she had to brake suddenly on a dual carriageway. I'm going to contact a service centre but my worry is that without codes they'll end up guessing and it'll cost hundreds without really knowing whether it's fixed. I've also read the dualogic logic thread where the advice seems to be to get rid of problem cars asap.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you're having problems.

Generic code readers won't usually read dualogic fault codes; you need a Fiat specific tool such as MES for that. Alternatively, a franchised dealer can pull any stored codes, but the cost will likely be at least as much as an MES licence and the necessary cable.

I've also read the dualogic logic thread where the advice seems to be to get rid of problem cars asap.

Right now, we don't even know if this is a transmission fault, so it's hard to advise what to do until the issue is properly diagnosed.

An independent Fiat specialist is probably the best place to go for third party help; whereabouts in the country are you located?

I'm in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. There's a Glynn Hopkins nearby but not sure of any other independent Fiat specialists. Thanks
