Hi Guys,

As i am looking to do the cambelt in the next few weeks and after checking on the search tool bar i see that the threads are getting a little out of date. I just wanted to ask everyone in the London Area what the latest prices and best garages to carry out the work.

Will give DTR a call maybe tomorrow and get a quote....maybe see if i can get a discount if i mention the forum.

thanks in advance!

Just as a guide for you, got mine done last May by the garage I've used for years here in MK. They are actually Audi specialists but they seem to be coping with the B just fine! I had the cam belt done, plus a service and new disks and pads and the whole lot, parts and labour, came to £653 inc VAT. As far as I can tell from the paperwork the cam belt itself was £94.11 ex VAT and the fitting was £135.

£653 inc VAT !!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW  Parts would be £200 ish Thank f**k I do my own work thats all I can say.

Next time you want to service your B TDMB, come over mine and I will talk you through it as you do it yourself. That way it will save you loads and you will be able to do it yourself from then on.

Thanks for the offer Doc, but I'm afraid I'm not quite as much of a 'DIY' B owner as you :) I work hard all week to earn money to pay someone else to do it, so I can have fun at weekends! Though of course I know that is 'fun' for you - but I spent too many hours under my dad's cars in the driveway as a kid while my mum grumbled about how he was never around . . .

Each to his own I guess :) bet you'll all think I'm a real heathen now and excommunicate me . . .

If you fancy a really long drive.... bring it over here..

Ordered parts from here for about £80 plus shipping (and a waterpump whilst it was gonna be apart)

http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/index.cfm?action=catalogue.list

checked out how much cam locking tools cost.... and Dropped it all down to the local garage... got them to supply and fit a couple of cv boots whilst they had it on the ramps and they charged me BD50 (about £65)

I know I was being lazy.... but I figured it wasn't worth the time and effort getting the tools off ebay... :D

Now if it was going to be £653.... that would be a different kettle of fish!!
I'm obviously in the wrong job.... or just a tight!

Cheers for you input mate.

So you bought all the parts and gave it to your garage to fit???

£80 parts + £65 garage labour = £145 total cost for cambelt change???

When did you have it done?

Where are you based............please dont say Scotland :-S

try Lloyd at clovertech independant fiat specialist
say you are from fiat forum
0208 984 7220

unit 4 pollyte works, wantz road
dagenham, essex
rm10 8ps

these not far from m25 a13 a12 an a406

Cheers for that DAVE spoke to Lloyd just now

£270 ALL IN

Thats cambelt and tensioners. 3-4hrs work

Lloyd can also supply and fit the up rated GSR variator at the same time, they should last the life time of the car

The car has only done 50,000 miles from new. Only on start up (2-3 seconds) does the car sound like a diesel lol then it fine.

Is just doing the cambelt and tensioners ok????

I think you'd find Scotland quite favourable once you check Desert Rats location:D

Told you it was a long drive ! If you were to tow a tanker behind you and fill it up with fuel whilst here it may pay for the trip! about 12p / litre!
