Fiat is also fitting stop-start as standard on all its Euro5-compliant petrol and diesel engines.

just taken from autocar website new evo punto release.....

i hope they have s/s sorted by then!

Since having had the software update my car (when the ss works) is great. I put it into neutral, handbrake on and engine stops. I press the clutch, engine re-starts, put car into gear and drive. This is great seen as my car prior to update wouldn't start after 3 attempts of foot on clutch. However I'm still getting the ss sign and warning triangl intermittantly for no reason. I still have difficutly believing that if car isn't warmed up you will also have the warning triangl and the only way to get rid of it is to switch the car off. Hardly practical on a motorway drive. This triangl and ss not available I find also comes on when your levelling up the clutch and accelerator to move the vehicle. Could it be releated to a sensitive clutch as this has to be used to drive the vehicle in any direction and this also, I'm assuming is linked to the ss as you need to press it once to re-start vehicle once ss is activated.

Haven't been back to garage for second attempt yet. Trying to get through to garage is proving difficult as they are always on answer machine and then we keep missing each other. Why I should have to pay for all the calls to chase them for a fault with a car they have supplied really annoys me, and taxi's there and back. Grrr I know it's fiat not them but I'm exhausted with all this effort. sorry to moan as I know it's not appreciated. Just wish fiat would do something.

So I take it nobody has had their s'n's warning light issue fixed yet then?

We got a letter from Fiat UK saying they understand how dissapointed we must be, and that the issue is being investigated by Fiat in Italy.

We also got a phone call from the dealer, saying how there aren't any updates for our issue, but Fiat in Italy are working on it.

So it's nice to know that somebody is working on it!...

well its being rolled out into the new punto evo as standard!...so thats every one with s/s...hope THAT works as one of europes best selling cars!

Interesting post....my wife picked up her S/S last Wednesday so when I got home, I thought I'd take it out. Only, this warning light was on the dash. I called Fiat customer services who put me through to the AA. They came out, but as I had backed the car off the drive onto the road, we couldn't replicate the issue.

A call to the Fiat dealer said it maybe that the onboard computer needed time to setlle in. I've never heard such a load of rubbish in my life. My brother in law laughed and said "they're not built to last forever you know :)". More than a few hours would be nice though!

Anyway, I'll be speaking to the delaer this week about it, and one or two other niggles (frosted headlamp, lumpy ride?)

I'll give them a chance to resolve it, but if it isn't, I'll be rejecting it.

its a brand new one?.....cant believe it!...and tht fiat would keep seling them with this known issue!

you seem to have the reversing 'trigger' point thats common to most too.

Oh yeah, the bad lights occurred with only 12 miles on the clock....

I'm disappointed that this car appears to be continue being sold with a known fault! Not dangerous (yet), I know, but if the "computer" needs time to settle down, do it before it leaves the factory or is delivered to the customer.

The whole point of buying a new car is because its new and everything should work! If my story was a one off, fine....but when I read that we can't find a single s&s owners whose system is working, then I'm not filled with confidence by my first Fiat purchase...or by the prospect of it being rectified anytime soon.

That said, I still need to give my local dealer an opportunity to resolve the issue...will keep you all posted. Fingers crossed, cos its still a nice little car......

1.2 S&S

Well my S&S car was in again last week (third time in) and they replaced a sensor (on or about the battery I think) but it didn't entirely fix the problem so now they're replacing another sensor on the gearlever (D4nny8oy mentioned that some S&S had a faulty neutral sensor but I presume they would have known if my car was in the faulty batch from the first time it went into the garage). I have to wait for the part to come from Italy (and they have to order a whole new gearlever not just a sensor). I say the problem is not entirely fixed since now, like everyone (?) else on here, my problem seems to be confined to the 'reverse trigger' whilst before I never seemed to have S&S working so I'm guessing I had more than one fault and it seems like they've fixed one of them. I'm a bit happier since at least now I can 'trick' the car into having S&S available (by not reversing!).

It would be nice if someone with a fully-functional S&S joined this forum and voted! Until then, I'm suspicious that all S&S cars have this fault.

they will have the third go at mine this thursday...unless there is a true eureka moment im thinking they are just trying their best, but with no real 'fix' available.

i dont think there are any out there s/s wise that dont have the fault!

one hell of a coincidence if it was just 100% of the s/s owners on here with the fault!...but everyone elses was ok!

Quick update on ours... no fix as yet, as haven't heard from anybody since we've been told the italians are looking into it.

However, the issues seems to be changing a little. Originally, the bad lights always came on when reversing off the drive. Now, occasionally, they don't, such as the couple of days when I thought I'd found a workaround. Also, we've now had cases where we've driven for 10 miles with no lights, parked up, then driven away forwards and the lights come on. Starting to wonder now wether weather has anything to do with it.

TBH, the thing's driving us bonkers, and we're just trying not to think about it. When Fiat or the garage finally call to say, "can you bring the car in", we'll be a bit, "are you sure this actually fixes it, coz we're fed up wasting time on it".

Needless to say, whatever happens, it's left a sour taste in our mouths about buying another Fiat someday. I was at one point toying with the idea of buying an Abarth for myself (as I like fast cars), but I wouldn't even consider it now. Fiat had their chance, and they threw it away.

and all of this is such a shame, cos its a beautiful car.

poorly resolved tech spoiling a great car.

Another thread, this time on the official Fiat site about people with s'n's problems.

http://www.fiat.co.uk/Community/forums/thread/5222.aspx

Yes, that's the thread I found when I first googled the problem then I saw that yourself and others on FF were having the same issue. I presume the "Jeb" on that thread is FF's "jeb1".

It's a shame "Soph" on that thread hasn't posed any recent replies seeing as she appears to be the first known person to have had the problem. In mid-May her S&S had been in the garage three times already in so if anyone should made any progress by now I'd hope it'd be her!

Does anyone have any idea how many S&S have been sold in the UK?

I have a S&S on order, due late Oct/early Nov. What worries me is that I'm in uni in Wales, and I ordered the car from a dealer in Scarborough - 300 miles away! If I experience these problems with it, does that mean I have to drive up to the dealer in Scarborough every time it might need to be looked at? That could be a VERY pricey carry on!
