Another thing I was told (on Thursday when I collected my "fixed" car) was that if S&S did fail then I would need to drive 40 miles, leave the car 4 hours, then drive for another 10 miles and only then when the car was restarted would S&S work!!! Apparently it reboots the system or something.
Once fitted, the IBS monitors the battery condition (voltage capacity, drop, etc) over the next 5 starts with a gap of at least 8 hours between them to determine the battery's ability to perform the repeated stop/start operations. If it's starting from a weak first-charge, you'll have system problems.
I'm not Fiat tech![]()
Sounds like they talking about the Intelligent Battery Sensor which has to run through a calibration whenever the battery is disconnected, as I've already said-
...though to be honest, the calibration procedure should only cause a real problem (ie, no S/S) on the first run after the battery is reconnected. Once it's gone through it's first start-up, drive, park-up, leave for 8 hours cycle it should start operating normally, and be fine after the 5th cycle.
Here's hopingsshhhhh.....not sure if i want to tempt fate or not..
i think its finally fixed......!
every trigger point from before not setting lights off, systems been perfect since thursday......
fingers crossed!

Thanks for the welcome. Warning lights still coming on. Contacting Fiat again tomorrow. Feeling really depressed by it all. Just wish they would take it back.
So, do you think it was just a case of running the new software update in for a few days?

They have to fix it pretty soon or you can reject the car presumably. Very annoying I can imagine, but don't feel down, its only a car... once its fixed we will all be envious (me especially).
To all those who are booking their cars in- Please ensure you demonstrate to the Tech how you get the fault. This way they have a definitive method of reproducing the fault and therefore can be confident that when they are done it is cured.
There's nothing more fustrating to a Tech than a customer saying a fault occurs all the time, not demo'ing it to anyone, then the Tech doing endless checks and roadtests without success because they can't replicate the exact conditions because they haven't been shown. :bang:
(Of course there's nothing more amusing than a customer complaining of a fault, and how "the Tech's can never fault it, blah, blah"- then are unable to recreate it themselves on roadtest. Finally they realise and understand what a difficult and unrewarding the job is as a Tech.)
i never get to speak to the tech,
For those not yet had the software update, I think we've found a kind of workaround for the issue. We've only tried it for 2 days, but it's had 100% success rate so far...
We've had the lights come on when reversing off the driveway every morning. For the last couple of days, we did the following procedure:
1. Start ignition
2. Hold down the start'n'stop button to manually deactivated the s'n's
3. Reverse off the driveway as per normal
4. Hold down the s'n's button again, to manually reactivate the s'n's
And that's it! Not a solution as such, but it seems to have gotten around the problem, so far!
I think what's perhaps going on is because we've deactivated the s'n's manually, it never gets a chance to deactivate it automatically, and it seems to be the automatic deactivation that makes things go pear shaped.
Mind you, we haven't yet tried NOT doing the workaround since we found it, so maybe it's just fixed itself!
