We've not had a call from our dealer yet. Wondering if they think the thing they did last week fixed it, as we haven't been back there since. Thinking perhaps I should call them up and let them know we've still got the issue.

Yes, their crystal ball is probably on the blink.:cry:

So, this "recall"...

Are the dealers saying that they've got a fix for the two lights issue specifically?

HI- Well despite my obvious lack of forum etiquette, (who knew?!) it seems the s/s issue should be resolved soon as a recall- when im in i will find out exactly what the criteria was for calling me in-

im presuming a production batch was identified as having the issues we experience- as soon as i find out what they have done i will feedback- in this thread!

maybe i have an efficient dealer!!...no one else notified yet?

well, i have the car back from the dealers, who spent all day installing a software update, and looking at a few other bits.

the tech had been on a twelve mile test drive to make sure it had worked...apparently it had so partner had picked the car up...i get in it, drive down the street, and what happens?????....PUT IT IN REVERSE AND THE TWO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON!

OMG!

fantastic software update!

the car was warm so this is a new way of the fault surfacing!

excellent.

Oh dear...

Not sure how a 12 mile drive actually tests the fix, coz with ours, going on a long drive fixes it anyway! Perhaps he should've done 12 miles going backwards!

Spoke to our DET yesterday. They know nothing of any software update anyway, but will look into it and get back to me. Not so bothered now...

Well i was called up by the garage who told me it was a recall-

on picking the car up, after a whole day with dealer, they said they had applied the 'update' at 9am but then had to wait 6 hours for fiat in italy to get back to them to tell them how to identify if it was 'successful'- a checklist if you like.....one of them was the 12 mile test drive!!!!

three fix attempts then reject- is that the criteria?????????????

will see how it behaves shortly as have to go on quite a drive.

more frustrated as i had got used to it and was therefore very hopeful this had fixed it!!!

Perhaps the system isn't meant ot kick in just after the car has been started? Just an idea :) Hope you guys get it sorted quickly :)

heres hoping!!...i love my car but something made me, just for a second, when i chose it question the s/s choice (for new technology reasons!) next to the metallic blue sport next to it!!!! They were the same price but i thought, nah s/s will be fine!!!

i should trust my instincts a bit more!!!

I always say that it's best to leave other to do the testing for you first ;)

I am never usually first in the queue for new technology – but I'm led to believe this isn't new technology - it dates back to 1991, so surely its got to bascially be okay? Right?

I've got to be honest its this thread that put me off changing my order at the last minute to a Start & Stop.
Well, that and a little nagging doubt in the back of my mind about the whole start & stop thing – I find the concept a little bit counter-intuitive (kind-of on a par with speed bumps if anyone knows what I mean).

I probably just didn't have to guts to get the more advanced machine, but I feel for you guys who did and really hope you get the problems sorted soon – it will happen I'm sure.

In the old days of my old Fiat Regata start and stop, you needed three or four starter motors in the boot just to see you through the next week

Thats the problem of forums, yes they can be good but also bad at the same time.

No forum should put off a potential buyer. I would say that 75% of stop/start fault I have came across have been driver error.

This is because a) there is little litreature for the owner b) poor handover in not explaining the system & its operation.

If you want a stop/start then with all due respect to other owners here get one. If I could afford it I would get one & the owners I know with this system are pleasently surprised by the effectiveness of the sytsem. I cant speak for the owners here who have/had issues (I haven't read the thread fully) but reading through the technical data Fiat have a good system which has been carefully thought out.

Maybe, but then this forum has helped me with many aspects of buying a Fiat 500, not just this issue. I would probably be buying a 1.2 Pop with a sunroof that my husband couldn't get into if it wasn't for this forum.

If you read one of my previous posts you will notice that my inital reason for disregarding the Start & Stop was that The official FIAT website does not list the spec correctly – nothing to do with this forum. I have pointed out these errors to FIAT and told them it will probably be putting people off the Start & Stop, but they don't seem in a hurry to fix it.

This forum seems to represent a large, loyal and most well-informed group of FIAT owners and I am grateful for their advice.

Oh absolutely, however I was just giving a view from 'the other side of the fence' (technicians opinion of the car)

Yeah, well I'm disappointed myself because I would have liked a Start & Stop but I have to think practically (sometimes). I had to go with the information available at the time.

the system is fine when it works...its just that it doesnt always work the way its supposed to-

and after the 'software update' i had today its worse than before!!!

so more time in the garage for it.

Great attitude Juwlz! I'm one of the unlucky S&S owners who is not pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the system - it never works, :(.

I took my car in on Thursday morning (second time in) to be told on Thursday afternoon that it was "fixed" via a software update. Two minutes after collecting the car, I had the failure and S&S not available lights come on. Drove around 200 miles at the weekend and same old problems. I actually think I have a different/worse fault than the other S&S owners on here since mine never seems to work (I can't ever hack the system into working by re-starting etc.).

I think that this update I had done on Thursday is the same one that keeforelli had since I was told that having had my car serviced at the flagship service centre meant that I got the "fix" first and it would then be rolled out to the other dealerships.

Anyway, I took the car back in yesterday (third time in) and have now been told that I need to have a part replaced (a sensor?) and that there wasn't any in the country so it would need to be sent from Italy. Collected the car this evening and will wait for their telephone call to say the part has arrived.

BTW, I've been happy with the customer service that I've received and I appreciate that these things happen but obviously I'm a little fed up of taking the car into the service centre (then paying for buses to get to work and to go and collect the car again) only to find that it's not been fixed. Most annoyingly it's time-consuming and I'm very busy with work at the moment.

However, I still love the car but I love it a little less,, those warning lights just constantly remind me that I'm driving a brand new car that doesn't work properly!

was it callibrated afterwards?

how would i know this?....there was apparently a six hour wait for the tech centre to confirm how to make sure the update had 'taken'

so i know they went thru a series of procedures afterwards.

but now its worse then before!...warning light used to come on at specific points, now no pattern to when the system fails.
