how would i know this?....there was apparently a six hour wait for the tech centre to confirm how to make sure the update had 'taken'

so i know they went thru a series of procedures afterwards.

but now its worse then before!...warning light used to come on at specific points, now no pattern to when the system fails.

When I was called to say my car was "fixed" I was told that they had applied a software update and "calibrated" the car.

I don't think my warning light EVER came on at specific points but I thought that I hadn't paid enough attention to when it happened. However, it now sounds like you now have the same complete lack of S&S problems that I have. I think I've had S&S work about 3 or 4 times in 2 months!

Another thing I was told (on Thursday when I collected my "fixed" car) was that if S&S did fail then I would need to drive 40 miles, leave the car 4 hours, then drive for another 10 miles and only then when the car was restarted would S&S work!!! Apparently it reboots the system or something. I actually undertook this driving procedure on Thursday night/Friday (fortunately I had to make a long journey) and it did infact fix the problem but only for 1 single journey and since then I've not had S&S! So perhaps, you'll see that S&S works if you do this but if your car is like mine then S&S only works for 1 journey.

...I would say that 75% of stop/start fault I have came across have been driver error...

I guess none of those have found this forum and this thread yet then?

Or is my poll not specific enough, and s'n's owners have voted to say they've still got the failure+deactivated issue when they haven't really?

...but I'm led to believe this isn't new technology - it dates back to 1991, so surely its got to bascially be okay? Right?...

We were led to believe the same thing, that BMW have been using similar Bosch s'n's devices for decades, and that the 500 s'n's has been out for years, with no problems, whatsoever.

At no point were we told that "s'n's is quite new, are you sure you wouldn't rather have a lounge or a sport?"...

In fact, to this day, I still don't know exactly how new the 500 s'n' is...

...If you read one of my previous posts you will notice that my inital reason for disregarding the Start & Stop was that The official FIAT website does not list the spec correctly – nothing to do with this forum. I have pointed out these errors to FIAT and told them it will probably be putting people off the Start & Stop, but they don't seem in a hurry to fix it...

Which part of the spec was incorrect?

Which part of the spec was incorrect?

When I go to the fiat.co.uk website and look on the configurator it doesn't list all the airbags and it doesn't list ABS or electric windows. I knew the configurator had a few definite mistakes so I double checked by looking at the spec breakdown listed in another place on the site (the bit where you can view the spec of 3 models side by side) and on this it just has a dash next to several of the airbags, the ABS and the electric windows – ie. suggesting the Start& Stop doesn't have them. I thought this bit of the website must be right at least.

Since then I emailed Fiat and they said that the S&S DOES have al the same airbags ABS etc, and furthermore there is nothing wrong with their website, there are no mistakes - it looks fine to them (great!).

I strongly suspect this is something to do with the fact I am viewing their website on a Mac (in fact I've checked on several different Macs) and not a PC, but I'm hardly going to be the only one. Fiat don't seem to be interested.

i absolutley believe there is no driver error involved with this issue.

it is purely system error, with a large part of 'were not quite sure how to fix it' thrown in.

my car is back in for the 3rd time on the 10th september!

it affects the esteem i hold the car in, and would just like it sorted.

Did they say what they were going to do when you bring it back on the 10th?

go through the same procedure, and hopefully have updated it so it works-

the whole driving 'x amount of miles' thing will hopefully not be necessary.

considering i got the fault within 1 min of getting back in the car, how the mechanic didnt in 12 miles im not sure!!....and the trip was reset and down to 33mpg!!...from my 49!!..so whatever he did he drove hard and used alot of my fuel!!!..and didnt spot the fault.

If they can't fix it at the 3rd attempt, I'm sure I've read that you can reject the car and ask for a refund? There is obviously a real problem with S & S cars as from your poll everyone who has one has the same problems. I hope you get it sorted OK?

its a shame because its a neat system and when its working..which is most of the time, its really good!

but its not quite right, and that niggles me.

3 fix attempts (ive read on here) is a 'reasonable' effort to fix something before you can reject.

i cant imagine fiat wants to replace all s/s models affected so they must hopefully be trying hard to sort this.

heres hoping!..if it doesnt work next time i will see what fiat C/S has to say!

I have just bought a stop start and I am having exactly the same problem. It has been in the fiat garage 3 times and the problem cannot be detected and therefore fixed.

I am at a loss as to how to proceed with this matter and thought I would see if anyone else was encountering this problem.

I would be interested to know if anyone manages to find a solution?

Good Luck!

I would have to say this is a slightly unreasonable route to go down though, at the end of it you want S&S working of course but it's hardly something that spoils the operation of the car and is worth you being without a car for another 3 months while your Lounge or Sport spec car is built. Persevere with things and when it gets sorted properly you'll have a rather economical car.

Hi jeb, welcome to the forum and welcome to the "S&S club" that doesn't S&S! Is your garage saying that there isn't a fault? If the warning light comes on then when they plug your car into their computers they should at least identify a fault but at present it appears that no one knows how to fit it.

Keep checking here for updates. Hopefully the problem will get sorted soon!

7 out of 7 S&S cars are faulty (and counting)...

ah my question answered!

You can see who voted and how, by clicking on the numbers ("7" at this time).

BTW, I would really appreciate it if there's anybody with s'n's and NO issue, that they vote. At this rate it's looking like a 100% failure rate, which is inexcusable imho. I've got a good mind to write to watchdog, or trading standards, or my mp, or the dog next door, or something.

Anybody know what happens if you do reject the car? Do they let you keep the rejected car while they build you another? Coz if not, it makes it very difficult for a lot of people to reject them, which seems wrong.

I think even if ours had been into the shop 3 times, I don't think we'd want to reject it still, as there's always a chance that the next day they'll find the fix! ...and I wouldn't want to suffer from premature rejection

HE HE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......

im sure when you reject a car that you have to pay for depreciation, not always a simple swap.

the best consumer champion is... 'gulps'.. what car!...if you look in the start of the magazine they are always helping with warranty/quality issues and resolving really rather well.

They named the s/s their 'green car of the year sub 13k' in july

they might be interested in this!
