Mornin, Just bought a new 1.1 eco active, is there any way I can up the power, bloody thing is useless.

Cheers

some engines are very tight when they're new, I had one that could hardly climb a hill when it was new. I thought the 1.1 had a great reputation so maybe it will loosen up a bit soon.

Once it's loosened up a bit just rev the nuts off it. Coming from diesels it took me a while to get used doing 50mph in second.

Is it notably slower than the one you test drove? As others say, may be it needs to loosen-up a bit, demonstrators must have a fairly intense "running-in".

Did you test drive before you bought it?

Of course not! Just bought it, Mrs Ring hit the large hill near us and caused a 20 mile tailback! What about a new airfilter? I told her to shove it in second and red-line it (although it has no revo-meter)

Well therein lies your problem. An air filter will not make a significant difference so I wouldn't bother with that. Think you are stuck with a relatively underpowered car, there is only so much 50bhp or so can do.

Maybe trade it in for a 100hp? :p

Must be something wrong with your ability to adapt to different vehicles.

Got sisters 2004 1.1 Panda in Feb. Though same as you on return journey home. Felt worse than my 1.0 Classic Panda, 12 hours later though, I'd learnt how to get the most out of the car and was bombing about quite happily in it!

Same here... I have a brand new 1.1 eco... ok i've done 1000 miles now, I find if I actually use that grey stick thingy that sticks out at you like a Pen1s, waggle it about a bit and use that funny bouncy thing under your right foot, my little 50 horses goes up hills like **** off a shovel.

Also whats the beef with motorway driving? I can fly along at 95 mph without a problem. underpowered a little yes, slow or gutless most definatly not!

Its all about ENERGY MANAGEMENT...AKA Driving like BSM and the like never taught you.

My advice... learn to fly aircraft, that will really teach you energy management!

Of course the question no one has asked re the 1.1 eco power issue is.... How much does Mrs King Prawn Ring weigh?????????????

Perhaps a diet could solve the power issue here rather than a new air filter!

I have covered just 153 miles in my Panda Active Eco and I find it alot more lively than my old MK3 Fiesta which was a 1.3. Its an engine you need to rev a bit but I find I can fly along with no problem at all. You need to change up on steep hills but it pulls very well, I am very happy with my one. I test drove a 1.2 as that was all they had in stockand I dont notice much difference in performance.

I had a couple of 1.1 Mk1 Puntos and they were great revvy little cars and would happily cruise at an indicated 85mph.
Have they stifled the 1.1 with less fuel/less emissions to give it the ECO tag.
Of course common sense tells you that it's going to be difficult to be eco and powerfull at the same time.

AFAIK to the the lower co2 tax rating all they did was change the tyres and gearbox oil. The engine is unchanged.
Mine doesn't feel sluggish compared to the non-Eco 1.2 I originally test drove.

It must have a rev limiter, so a lack of rev counter is not a problem. Just keep going, your soon know its limits!
