Tuning Brand New Gutless 1.1 Eco Active

I've resisted the urge to contribute to this thread but cannot contain myself any longer.
My daughter has a 3 year old 1.1 Active, OK not an Eco but not much different.
I love it. Easily keeps up with town traffic, gets up to 30 mph no problem then slots into 5th gear and justs rolls along using no fuel at all (or so it seems).
Get out onto motorway/dual carriageway. The speed limit is 70 mph max so what's the problem.
Sits in inside lane at 70 most of the time with a huge space between you and next vehicle, how safe can you get. Just let the "rush rush" society overtake, they may get to their destination a few minutes earlier but WTF.
Get yourself onto a winding country lane and the little car is so chuckable (nothing to do with the Chuckle Brothers). OK, sometimes the front tyres let go a bit but that's all part of the fun.
Takes me back to driving 850cc Minis but with a much nicer gearchange and much better brakes.
End of sermon. Amen.

:slayer: Agree 100%

We were crackin it between 80 and 100 down to malaga today. Even playing in the fast lane with a Ferrari california for a while till the politize told us off.... 1856 miles in 48 hours and now We're going to sahara test it!

Although its nowhere near as glamorous I went to Whitby at the weekend.Thats just over a 4 hour ride there and back and an overall total of about 300 miles from where I live. The Active Eco was fantastic on the motorway. It cruised at 70mph in fith no problems at all with me and the missus. However getting near Whitby on the north yorks moors it struggled on the steep winding hills.I tried not to rev its nuts off with it being a brand new engine. It coped ok but I had to drop down to second gear on a really steep hill on the way back.I started to get really uncomfy on the way back as the seats just dont support you that well on long journeys. You cant blame the car though as its not a GT cruiser its a city runabout. What was really impressive was that it did all that distance on just a single tiny tank of fuel.

what does it cost (roughly) for a tank full of fuel ? (can't find many specs on things like fuel tank capacity, engine oil type/quantity, gearbox oil etc)

thanks

Steve

Steve,

The official line is that the tank is 35 litres, here's my Fuelly stats to give you an idea on consumption etc - http://www.fuelly.com/driver/udtrev/panda

Thanks for that Trev, about £30 on average to fill up a tank or ... hang on better go back and re-look... could be you only put in £5 sometimes...?

35 litre tank at £1.09 a litre (I think thats the going rate for petrol having not bought any for years of diesel driving)...£38.15 a tank full !.. not bad... 40 quid to fill it up and do 300miles...

So very roughly speaking... if we say our car makes a trip to work and back 5 times a week (at 10 mile each way) plus a trip to shops about similar distance...that makes about 1 tank every 2½ weeks... give or take... or £20 about every week and 3 or 4 days?... currently we get about 1 week out of £20 in the 2 litre diesel.... ???... is it my maths?... doesn't sound that economical to me...

I'm paying roughly £1.04 a litre, I always log my fills so you can see what I'm getting in my Fuelly Stats :D :D

I'm filling up at @ 360 miles at present, and that's without the fuel like coming on, I've had a good dozen or so + 400 mile tanks and could have had quite a few more if I had waited for the light (there's a good few miles left after the light comes on - at least 50)

My fill ups are based on full to full, no £5 top ups mid tank.

Forgot to say, mines not an Eco model :D :D

Nope, he eco is only just coming out, mine's standard - Fiat's own figures make the eco 10 mpg better than mine.

I just like to challenge their figures :D :D - well it's that or I'm a tightar$e, or hate paying fuel tax :D :D

I didn't understand any of that, but for the same route that my 2.0 diesel Vectra would average 47mpg on, my 1.1 Eco does 54mpg.

Plus it's coming up to winter and diesel's going to go up.

I think my Active Eco is extremely economical but then again my previous car was a 2.5 V6.I think the FIAT mpg figure is 56.5 and I know manufacturers figures are usually reliable.

Here's a little comparison for you

1.1 Eco 1.2 standard 1.2 Eco
Combined 56.5 50.4 56.5
Extra urban 68.4 58.9 68.4
Urban 42.8 39.8 42.8

With just over 2,000 miles on the clock, I've found mine to be pulling quite well.
In fact it was fast enough to catch these two really fast guys.
