Just had a tow bar and electrics fitted to my 2006 5 door 1.4 and the boot door won't close. It just bounces against the rubber seal. Does the catch need to be sprung back in some way? The solenoid seems to function OK when the boot release is pressed.

use a screwdriver to swing the "clasp" of lock mechanism SHUT..,

see if it latches.. IF it latches, then they've disturbed the alignment of things..NOT ideal..!!

if it doesn't latch then possible they've upset the electrical contacts to release handle in tailgate,

try locking and unlocking car doors , see if it's "out of sync",

Thanks for suggestions. The clasp is in the "open" position and seems to be a metal outer with a rubber/plastic core. I've tried to swing it to the shut position as you suggest but it doesn't budge with moderate force. Is there a knack to moving it? Which direction should it go?

A partial fix has been reached. The latch was shifted so that the boot closed properly but it can now only be opened with the key. The micro switch can be heard clicking but it is not operating the solenoid that shifts the bar on the latch block. Furthermore there is a "rear hatch door open" warning light permanently on in the instrument cluster even though the door is firmly closed!
