Blue & Me - Tech Info and questions and answers

hello,

one more week till i become a fiat driver too, will be getting my fiat punto evo racing :)

I have a question to which i havent found the answer yet. The garage hasnt been able to help me to an answer either.

The punto has the Blue&me with the usb-port.
I am thinking of connecting a portable harddisk onto it. (one which is powered by the usb-cable)

With that, i have 2 questions.
1. Does the usb-port give enough power-output to power a portable hd through the usb-connection?

2. What is the maximal capacity the blue&me can handle. I was thinking about getting a 500 or 1000 gb harddisk :D

Thanx in advance for your answers/help!

i just picked up my new fiat grande punto yesterday and i am having problems with my blue&me i connected it fine to my LG viewty but im having problems getting my contacts into the phonebook. It told me to send my contacts from my phone to the blue&me and then press the phone button but im very confused.

You need to send your contacts as "business cards" via bluetooth to the car. If you go into the settings, then to "Add Contacts" or similar. Go to your phone and select the contacts to send (via bluetooth) to the car. Follow the instructions given by Blue&Me. Im not sure if it works with the Viewty, I had one but it was a long time ago now!

Bumped from another dormant thread for a helpful techie...

Very recent 500 owner with B&M - 3 days and absolutely loving the car.

Now to the tricky party - Blue&Me! I would've assumed that a car built and bought in the last month was up-to-date with 5.4 but it appears this might not be the case, unless the B&M SatNav or other optional B&M device was installed by the factory.

The saga continues... Being an iPhone 3G owner, I knew what I was getting myself into and was very happy to have it pair without a hitch and the phonebook copying itself across without issue. What is a bit confusing (and please excuse my ignorance) is I'm an MP3 Windows iPhone user so assumed that I could use it as a media player without the adaptor. Not so it would seem...

Anyway, getting to the point, I attempted to run the 5.4.11 update with numerous USB drives (including a brand new one) and all have failed with the Error USB 10 message. I tried a hard reset (disconnected for over 40 mins) but whilst this reset the clock, it didn't unpair the phone and still doesn't let me run the 5.4.11 update.

Log.txt reads:

D9093C11
UPnot

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Am I attempting the impossible - playing MP3s on an iPhone 3G without the adaptor and what is stopping an update from running at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In passing, any news on whether the updates sorts out support for the MS Zune as I have one sitting about that could do the job of a media player.

Cheers in advance.

Please try this: disconnect the battery [-] terminal and re-connect it after a few minutes. This solves most of the problems!

Right, no idea where to place this question so in here will just have to do:D

I press the Windows button to operate the voice recog system for the media player and it takes over 10 seconds by the time I've waited for the voice to start and then to actually finish her info talk about how to use "Please make a selection or say "help" for more options".Kinda makes the convienience of the voice opertaded system null and void.

Is there anyway to change the amount of time it takes from pressingthe button to when I can actually speak the command?

Cheers in advance, Richard.

Hi Richard,

Just press the windows button and start talking immediately.

The only reason the car starts talking is that it's waited for your command, not heard one so reminds you of what you can say.

Hope this helps.

Ok, just got my 500 1.2 lounge a few weeks ago and during the long wait for delivery (3months) I bought an iPod/iPhone adapter. The thing is, is the adapter will not work at all, first with my iPhone 3G and now my shiny new iPhone 4. However, both phones have worked perfectly WITHOUT the adapter. Don't know what version Blue&me is installed but the car will not accept (config error) the latest 5.4.11 update from the Fiat website.
So advice to people who have ordered a new Fiat with Blue&me, do not buy one of these expensive adapters before you have the car and try out your iPhone by plugging it directly into the USB port first.
Regards,
Esscon

Any suggestions how to get Blue&Me to play iPod album tracks in order, rather than alphabetically? Does changing the ID3 tags actually work? Mine all seem to be set to 'none' on iTunes at the moment.
Thanks,
Julie

Please can someone tell me how to find out what version of B&M is installed on my car???

Thanks

Use the ePER service below

http://www.farel.it:7080/navi?FORCED=TRUE

Put your cars VIN and through the parts catalogue, find the RADIO section. It will show u exactly the part number tha it was originally fitted with, and if there is a new part that have replaced it!

it's time for my question I guess :p

After killing the B&M unit with a bad upgrade, and after hearing the hefty price for getting a new unit through the dealer... I decided to take my risks and find a used unit through e-bay.

I actually did find some B&Ms for sale, but they have different part codes. However I have a close match. It's a B&M unit from Lancia Delta (too many common parts with the Bravo) but it uses a different part code. The fact is that Deltas code and Bravos code have both been replaced by a new but same part number!!!! So I suspect that they maybe identical after all.

Does anyone knows if those units are interoperable throughout the Fiat/Lancia/Alfa range? Also is it just a matter of plug n play installation?

Thanx in advance :)

I have a SoynEricsson Z710i non compatable phone will it work through a USB cable I have one of those that I use to connect my phone up to my computer

  1. I have just bought a Fiat 500 with Blue and Me and 1 week before bought 2 LG phones. Blue and me says it cannot transfer the phonebook from my LG although the phone is paired and works OK. However, my old Motorola RAV3 probably will allow the phonebook transfer. Can I copy my phonebook to the Blue & Me and "save" it there from my Motorola and then put the SIM back into my LG and use it from the car?
  2. When I verbally command the system to dial a number, it adds extra number 1 digits all over the place. Even when I ask it to delete the number, it does it again. It does this with either my husband's or my voice command with numbers. Any advice?
  3. Can you charge a phone using the USB port?

You cant do point 1 as Blue&Me matches the phone and not the sim, saying that most of the older LG phones will work you just need to manually send all your contacts to the B&M system.

As to why your system adds 1's to any verbally given numbers perhaps its your Ozzy drawl???

On a serious note, point 3 the answer is yes you can charge most phones using the USB cable, some phones (ie iPhone) loose some functionality while plugged in via USB so you need to check when you've plugged it in.
