If the pistons are bigger, it won't affect the bleeding but it will lead to a longer pedal before you get to the brakes. You will be able o pump the pedal solid without the engine turning, but the servo will take it down when the engne is started.

Cheers

Yeah maybe, it is travel I believe, I press the pedal then nothing, nothing then brakes then harder brakes you get the picture.

Luke - Is your pedal as good as before then?

mean i must admit the brakes work and since i did the rear shoes the subsequent bleeding helped a lot.
i may give it one mass bleeding pushing a load of fluid through and see hwere we are.
im actually wondering i need to replace the rear brake springs as the rear shoes are dragging slightly and theres plenty of movement in the handbrake when its off

i really am puzzled by all this brake stuff.

i fitted my GT brakes and they were perfect straight out the box, if anything the peddle is firmer than before, bites very hard, need to be careful not to lock brakes they are so good. Transfered them onto imola, exactly the same. I fitted maxtorq discs, mintexx M1144 pads and Goodridge s/s lines.

Did Emmas brakes on hers with the slightly different calliper design, I think the older one without eth wire across the front of calliper, on first Cinq the peddle was firm, if anything felt a bit wooden, but put that down to needing bedding in, changed brakes over to her turbo cinq, brakes work well passed MOT easily, but lots of peddle travel, fitted diff master cylinder, new handbrake cable as that was found to be sticking on one side, a rear brake cylinder, freed up pivots etc and peddle has eventually got a bit firmer, but still not like mine, the only difference between hers and mine are the calliper design which I know from the pics is what you have Liam, it may well just be a trait of this calliper that you get more travel from it and you learn to work with it.

Aaron.

well im on the 'newer' wired design.
im wondering if its a rear cylinder.on the passengers rear brake, this is where i get the most air and it can come in streams like its being drawn in at the piston with the pumping.
im at the piont where i think i need to change at least that one just for my own peace of mind

Could well be Aaron, I am a bit scared to really push mines just now due to bedding in but we'll see through the week how it progresses.

Mine is much much firmer. That was down to the rear brakes though i feel as the handbrake mechanism was allowing the shoes to pull back in too far so would take an extra pump to push them out making them firm from the top :)

You need to do what Alex needs to do - bleed the calipers with them unbolted, bleed nipples facing completely up. Take the pads out, and pump the piston out pretty much as far as it will go (not too far so piston falls out..) then push it back in with a G clamp with the bleed nipple open. Do this a couple of times on each caliper.

Then all should be fine :) The problem comes where the bleed nipple isnt at the top of the cylinder, so you can bleed as much as you want, but it wont get rid of all the air in the system as it sits in pockets above the bleed nipple. By taking the caliper off and bleeding it manually with the bleed nipple facing totally up, the air has no choice but to escape (y)

Custard, whats wrong with your brakes?

you are god :worship:

done that today and got alot of air come out took about 2 seconds for it to stop bubbling.

i now have brakes that work lol

handbrake is good too but tyres are too thick for hand brake turning most proabally get stronger when the pads wear in :D

getting some right funny looks of people today when testing my brakes out on the side streets, driving along then slamming brakes on to see if it locks up, then driving slowly appling brakes till stopped ect...

also done my front calipers too so now have all 4 uno turbo brakes on my car.

fronts wouldnt fit with my wheel on so i just bolted it up and let it score its mark in the wheels when going around the block, then took each wheel off and got the grinder to it to make the grooves deeper and hey presto all is good now :D:slayer:

got my digi cam back so will most proablly do a guide sometime tomorrow for you lot incase others want to do the conversion

gazza mate, did you need 6mm spacers between the hub and the disc on the front? :)

spacer what spacer? :p i managed to find some washers that were 4mm thick and 12mm inside bore that happen to fit inside the disc fine. so welded 4 of them over the holes to keep them in place.

works fine dont wobble 1 bit works fine so itll do me :D

I wonder if an easier way wouldn't be to unbolt the calipers, place them on an old disk (or suitable spacer) with the nipples facing up, and then bleed?

Ok, done 270 miles before getting brave enough to push the pedal harder, went to town on it this morning and all I can say is

HOLY F**K they are lethal, you brake hard and the back can go quite skitish and the nose drops crazy, they are good don't get me wrong but need treated with care.

A few times I thought the rear was going to swop ends!
