Best place to buy a new car online ?

Short journeys are no worse for a diesel engine than a petrol and you'd still get 35mpg around town, 50+mpg on the open road. A diesel engine will still outlast a petrol but I'm guessing you won't be keeping it into the hundreds of thousands of miles.

I still personally prefer petrol engines, no matter what anyone tells you they are more refined but for someone who does 2000+ miles a month diesel is the only sensible option. If I was doing 500-1000 miles a month I wouldn't bother.

If you've got the cash then the 3.2 V6 is the daddy . I reckon fuel consumption wouldn't be far off the juice old 2.4 Stilo.

Hmm I will look into the fuel prices tomorrow then. I am going to see three GT's tomorrow but I have to travel 30 miles just to get to the nearest Alfa dealers now
I just can't commit myself to a diesel car, for some reason it just doesn't feel right to me IYKWIM and I don't want to regret the purchase.

Yeah my heart is saying go with the Alfa 3.2 V6, just wish it had a selespeed box. Group 19 insurance is a bit much though
If I do go for that then I will need to wait a year or more for my NCD to to build up again.

Went to VW dealers today To have a look at the Golf GTi and the R32.

I have to say the GTi is by far the better looking car of the two. It comes with a DSG box option and paddle shift, sat nav screen as per the Stilo and lovely black leather interior that fits around me like a glove. Very impressed with the comfort levels and service, also the quality of the interior was very nice.

I will go to the Alfa dealers next week now as I just haven't got the time to do it today, can't wait to sit in the GT, and they have a silver one with red leather interior in the showroom, so I really wanna compare that to the golf. The Alfa is by far the better looking car but that gearbox is pulling me towards the golf

Why not look at the Alfa 159, the auto will be released in a little while although there is some debate over whether it is Selespeed type or normal auto with manual selection. I am test driving a 159 on Wednesday which belongs to Alfa (UK) Ltd.

A good online place is www.autoebid.com as you can put down how much you want to pay and the dealers will bid on it with their best offers.

I will look at the 159 but from the video footage I have seen of it I think it's a little weird looking like the Brera. The front is a bit over styled IMO but I will reserve judgement till I see it in the flesh.

Quite a few people think the GTI looks better than the R32. I like the look of both but I havnt seen the R32 in the flesh yet. From the pics im liking it alot though and im sure JC loved the sound it made :chin:

Sort of yes, but the quality of the car in the flesh was really top notch and this car is not dull IMO. With the right kit on, like this one here it easily fits the look that I want, and with a remap on a 200bhp turbo engine I would imagine I could get 215-220bhp from it :chin:
Yes the italian designs are more appealing but the nearest Alfa dealer to me is about 30 miles away and with reliability issues that could be a major stumbling point.

Why not look at a new octavia vrs - built just as good, same engine, same everything as golf, bigger, looks the nuts (compared with the rather dull golf anyway) and, erm, loads cheaper.

Get a red one.

Im sure a remap on the 2.0T FSI would take it further than 220bhp I dont think the Golf's dull either, they look bloody ace! And you get the VAG build quality.

The Octy vRS is a bit more of a family car isnt it, but I saw one in the dealers yesterday and wow. Its nice.

I was just readig on a Miltech (sp) performance exhaust site and they reccon that a full system combined with a remap can take the GTi up to 267 BHP. Problem is the car itself with the options I really want to go for is gonna cost at least 25K new :chin: But then it's around the same for the Alfa GT.

I got cruise control for free aswell The only downside is that the cars are pre-reg, but I wasnt that fussed.

I want the Black leather interior which is around £1,800 with heated seats,

I want a sunroof £4-500

Sat Nav with 6.5 inch screen £1,800

DSG box which takes the price up at least an extra 1K but also knocks the 0-60 time down from 7.2 to 6.9 seconds.

The Stearing wheel with paddles on and other options on the wheel is about £400 extra.

18 inch wheels £500 or so.

I think that about it, and yeah it will be 3 door that I'm after as I prefer to control the kids entry and exit to the car

I just sent them a message with the options listed so hopefully they can get that price down a bit. Pre reg don't bother me much especially if they can knock a few K's off that price and as long as the car is perfect
