Am just wondering what mpg you are getting for a 1.2 petrol engine?

Each month an averaging 42mpg, is this normal for my 2015 1.2 petrol panda?

Thanks

Over my year of ownership I've achieved an average of 47mpg (calculated by me, not the car. The car estimates around 4mpg higher).

And that's me trying to be efficient; so light throttle application, lots of coasting, not over-slowing for corners (that's the fun bit!). I only drive around once a week, usually on rural backroads, so no motorways and rarely dual carriageways.
I think i've read other say they get well above 50 when trying, so I'm probably not doing a good job.

My routes are usually quite hilly though which doesn't help. I noticed a decent drop in efficiency when I was doing a lot of journeys back and forth to my parents house, which has a particularly steep hill to navigate each way.

45 but lots of short journeys under 2 miles, took it out yesterday for a 30 mile drive due to needing a run.

40-42 indicated on average with primarily shorter runs.

37 😂
So far, over 1,000 miles just on very short local journeys in traffic. The car has only done 2,000 miles since 2021 so had a major service & belts etc. last month.

Last tank 33.9 in the school commute (1.5mi takes 20 min).

Will shortly start a 40 mile round trip 3 day per week commute and running on Tesco 99 so hoping to push that up to late 40s, have seen 47-48 on the trip on a gentle 10 mile motorway run.

So something not right with mine :)

Hi , totally normal, actually more or less bang on the money , although it's got a primative form of VVT , don't forget the basic design for this engine is over 40 years old , 8 valves , no EGR , no low friction pistons etc etc , 4 cylinders ,anything over 40 mpg on none motorway runs is good tbh , and the weather is colder now so you might see a little drop 👍🐼

Hi Adam.

Yours seems fair for your journey, good oil of the rightgrade, tyres inflated properly, nothing significant in the boot, windows up, no idling warming up, decent clear air filter and good plugs.

Also use the instantanious consumption readout on the car as its often more efficient light throttle in 4th gear than foot down in 5th on some longer inclines, you can learn from the car what works best.

Yes E5 is better.

Note ive recently been a noughty boy and purchased a Smart fortwo 0.8l auto diesel, first tank i got 69mpg then after some learning to work with it, serviced it. Then i add cetane to the fuel(the same as octane boost does for petrol). So 521 miles from a tank of diesel of 27.65 litres gave me an astonishing 85.4mpg.

It goes to show that setting the car up well and knowing how to do it can raise the economy significantly.

Tim
