is there a big difference in accelarating and handling when you switch the asr button or is it just a unused gadget with no point to it.

mine is a 1.6 and i cant tell the difference except for the warning sign of wheel lspin.

Like ABS, you won't notice it at all until you start pushing the envelope and getting near the limits adhesion. Then it will do all sorts of clever stuff to keep you planted on the road and avoid kissing walls and leaping off cliff edges etc

And yes, you will probably get better drag race starts if you have it switched off as it will be applying brakes and easing off gas etc to prevent your madness going too wayward

Yes i would seriously advise keep ASR on permanently too. When you need it, it will be too late then to turn it on. It's a sophisticated stability program and there's a reason why warnings are on the dashboard if you turn it off
But if you're testing 0-60 times etc e.g. after a remap then you'd need to take the sensible interference of the ASR off for true figures

Dosent this also disable the ESP program as well when switched off. Personally id rather have it on as ESP has got me out of trouble a couple of times on the motorway (once was a stag), if this program wasnt on the car i think i could have easily lost it.

ESP cannot be deactivated at all. The ASR button only controls the ASR function!

ASR - Anti Slip Regulation

ESP - Extra Sensory Perception - BUT it can't work out when the next BEEP BEEP is going to happen :chin: j/k

No, it is Electronic Stability Program

thats the reason why when i bought my car (03) i bought the showroom car and not waited for one to be made and delivered, i have 6 (i think) airbags (all worked once LOL), esp, asr, ebd, aircon in an active, and loads more equipment. It seem a real shame they dropped all the good bits in the re spec, it made the car for me less desirable without the safety features they dropped.

Remember, not all Stilo's have ESP. It started out being just the 1.8, 2.4 & JTD. I believe around 04 time it became optional on all models.

All Stilos have ASR - some don't have the ASR button, as the Stilo adopted the ABS system from the Alfa 147 (v.8) which deleted this button. Vehicles with ESP, however, retained this button.

I can hear you asking now "How do I know if I have ESP?" Simple. GO into the car, turn the engine on, and press the ASR button. If the lamp on the button lights up, but NO lamps appear on the cluster, then you have ESP. If a lamp does appear, then you don't.
