OK - one site says Motor Slip Regulation, BUT I always knew it as "''Motor Schleppmoment Reelung'' or something - same thing, lol.

Remember, not all Stilo's have ESP. It started out being just the 1.8, 2.4 & JTD. I believe around 04 time it became optional on all models.

03 was the year they dropped the equipement, the likely hood is if you have an late 52 early 03 upto march then you will have the equipment (easy check is any parts on the car with a date stamp that has 02 on will have it included, like underside of the ash tray, etc).

Also the 1.6 had the esp as standard on the original car, the 1.2 didnt. This wasnt an option on my car, it was included as standard. But your right it became an option in early 2004 accross the whole range. This was one of the big selling points fiat used in their original adverts (as well as that stupid adverts with all the parts clicking and sliding.. anyone remember that one lol).

Not to pick at you but ESP was not standard to the 1.6, it only came in at 1.8 and above - I'm talking about UK specs here.

My car has ESP, ASR and ABS, I know because it often tells me with three beeps for each when they all fail.
My local dealer said it is a switch under one of the foot pedals.

Or tired battery. Many people have found that this fault stops when battery is replaced. Might be worth getting it tested.

That switch under the foot brake is a common problem (if it really is that). Can't you get it fixed

I've already had the battery changed & the fault remained.
I've had the old airbag fault & came through it.
This fault is getting more frequent these days.

Argonought - This fault occured when the car was in warrenty but is now out of warrenty (after they tried several different things including a new E.C.U).

I might try my luck and tell them I shouldn't have to pay for it to be repaired because it happened within the warrenty period, it wasn't my fault they couldn't find the cause.

Definitely should make a fuss if they never fixed the fault under warranty

Its not happened to me yet but I gather the brake switch can cause ESP errors (mainly because the system thinks you're braking but you aren't so gets confused - or something like that)

Had a few posts with people mixing different tyre sizes on the same car (will cause problem with ESP) - I presume you have checked all your tyres are the same?

Low down:

ABS: stops wheels locking under heavy breaking
EBD: Distributes breaking pressure evenly to all four wheels
HBA: Applies maximum breaking under emergency situations
ASR: stops wheel from spinning on loose surfaces
ESP: Keep vehicle stable and free from over and under steer when cornering hard
MSR: Cuts engine torque being transferred to driven wheels when you change down gears mostly on wet surfaces
EVA: don't know yet?? Saw it in the brochure, but didn’t explain
