Technical ARB bushes

I have the original type bushes on order, they will be available in approx ten weeks, if you require some then please let me know, they will be sold at a reasonable rate not rip off.

I would be very interested in the bushes. I can't get our 04 Multi to stop squeaking over speed humps etc. I have lubricated the bushes with everything I can think of but nothing lasts more than a few days, silicone grease was last used but the squeaks and groans are back. I was just going to buy a new anti-roll bar as I'm fed up with it even though the bushes are not worn. Your bushes sound like a good alternative.

I think a lot of people will be interested. So whats a reasonable rate?

Just finished fitting the remodeled SAAB 9000 polyurethane bushes from Powerflex. Made a world of difference - no noise and a better & firmer feel to the front end.

They took about two to three hours to carve away with a Stanley knife (I'm sure there must be a better tool) & only one cut finger! Both fit at first fitting so that was a bonus.

If anyone wants to go this route I'll be happy to give a description of how I went about it.

I'm hoping I wont need to touch the bushes again until I say goodbye to the car although I imagine the drop links will not last the distance.

Good luck to your quest for OEM bushes they have got to be easier to fit.

My Parts Manager has sourced the original type bushes, he knows we are loosing sales because of how expensive the bars are, and has promised to resell them at a reasonable rate, I cant see them being much at all certainly not anywhere near that guy on ebay at £34, probably less than a quarter of that.

NumanR said it would take ten weeks to get them and that was 2 weeks ago so we are looking at August time for delivery.
I'm not sure I can hold out that long as the creaking and groaning is driving me mad and now my clutch pedal has started squeaking too! Looking like a new clutch required at only 40K miles. Arghhh!

Well then if you cant wait, make your own!
Order bushes to a Saab 9000 and start cutting:D

Manchester airport and back last night - blissfully quiet - like driving a different car! (Even the missis noticed the lack of rattles on her 'shopping run' this morning   :). . . now THATS impressive!!!)

P/S I didn't pay 35 quid to that robber on ebay for his rubbers either, mine cost only an hour and arf of time and a bit of ingenuity!

The whole ARB can come out if you've got a car lift available, its a bit of a fiddle but it can be done - I did it!

I bought rubber bushes instead of poly, they are better than the original ones and not as hard as the polyurethane ones.
Not cheap, but made with a good quality rubber, 45€, postage included.

If you remove the sound deadening material behind the bar you can take the arb out through there on stands.

Desira Group will have in stock next week, original type ARB bushes for £9.50 each plus vat. The part number is P26349

Desira Group can be contacted on 0845 3460701 or www.desiragroup.com

They also have repair kits available for the trailing arm bushes part number

I notice on the yahoo groups site there is a lot of positive about the "Nail trick"!
(putting a galvanised 40mm oval brad nail between top centre of the old bush and the retainer.)
Of course its a temporary fix, but any devotees over here?

Anyone tried the Desira stock yet?

You're not afraid of a little hard work Pondweed.

Get the SAAB 9000 polturethane bushes (Part No SPF1816/18 from Superflex)) and whittle them down to fit.

You will not be disappointed!

not afraid, but I prioritise hard work into stuff that costs and stuff that doesn't!

I have no access to ramps or garage - can I replace them without jacking up, with the wheels on lock? Is is just a 13mm spanner? Would be grateful for your "how to" for the uninitiated...

Would also be interested to borrow someone's old ARB bush for a while so I can do them without having to take my ones off the car first?

The 'hard' work, if it be that, is whittling away the SAAB bush to make it fit.

First remove one of the old bushes by jacking up, removing wheel and slackening the two screws that hold the bush bracket. Insert an old chisel or screwdriver between top and bottom of bracket and gently hammer until they part company. Remove bracket & bush.

Clean up the lug so that the two halves will fit nicely together when refitted. draw a template of the bush so that you can carve the polyurethane to fit. I left approximately 1mm extra all round on the new bush.

Re-assemble ensuring that the beveled edge of the bracket seats properly.

If you are reluctant to cough up the £20 for the polybushes, bind the ARB with a good tape or sleeve it with a sheet of plastic and replace the old bushes

I'm 68 and did it on the floor so I'm sure a young whippersnapper can do it easily ;)
