Another MK2 in the fold

Another MK2 in the fold

ad go for it, 3M is the known brand but I've read good reviews of bay alternatives that people think are better than 3M

Now that this is pretty much retired from daily usage, beginng to wonder about long term plans.

At the end of the day, she is just a punto. But wondering if some fun could be had before she heads for permanent retirement.

The 1.2 8v has done her well, but I suspect may be running into the ground, beginning to think longer term and a possible site project car?

I believe a 1.2 16v conversion is relatively straightforward, and might be a nice option. I've always fancied trying something like the road navigation rallys. Obviously nothing too fancy, but a wee bit more poke would be beneficial. Could also maybe use it for some site based roadtrips, promotion etc.

Probably will never happen, but just wondering?

Not sure how much harder it'd be, but I'd 1.4 it if you could. An extra 15hp to be had from what is basically the same engine.

If you went all out, could strip it out to a two-seater, cage it, coil overs and so forth. Have seen a few 5-doors done Euro style and they can look rather sweet :) Plenty of potential with a mk2 Punto, only reason I wish I'd kept mine as there's more off the shelf bits for it than the Stilo

Few daft ideas floating around last night, so we'll see what happens.

But yeh, thats the Punto retired now. Well, from everyday use. Someone at work pointed out today shes sitting a bitty low on the O/S/R so possible spring/shock issue. I'll have a look but looks like my decision over which car to take to Dundee next weekend has just been made!

no daft ideas were mentioned last night though, everything mentioned was perfectly simple and realisticly achieveable car wise ;)

I think it's a great idea. I like the idea of FS having a site car, plus if you drive it the ~ 960 miles round the coast of Scotland from Edinburgh to Glasgow it would be great publicity

Just don't run over any sheep top gear style

Thanks for the offer of help, I've already been talking to Mark about the mk2 as there is a longer term project there.

Problem with moving the car to Dundee for this repair is that it might not be possible/safe IF there is a suspension issue. I'll have a proper look under the car tomorrow hopefully!

Fair enough.
I just wasn't thinking at the time of posting, my sleeping hours have been f***ed... too much PS3 i.e still playing at 4am so mornings.

Made a brief start to this yesterday.

From an initial inspection, I'm really not sure what could be wrong with the rear suspension. Everything certainly looks to be where it should be. It's more or less sat as a storage shed for assorted crap since I started my new job and got a company car. I'm wondering if the look of failed suspension has been simply due to the volume of shite sat in the car.

Anyway, I got the plastic rubstrips off the doors. Unfortunately it started pissing down before I could remove most of the glue that hols them on, so thats another job for another day. I'm not sure about taking the car to the Dundee meet, but could be an interesting look if I do :)

That being the case

i) Would it be safe to limp the car to Dundee for inspection?
ii) Would it be something that's repairable whilst in town?

i) more than likely as the top or bottom of the spring would just lock into place where the old part was, or against the old part if it was still there
ii) not unless you have springs to replace the broken one/s with (i say springs because a, i know the plan and b, they should be changed in pairs anyway)
