Hi, I took the dash out without disconnecting battery...:( And now I have airbag light on. I have a vag kkl cable and multiscan, but I can´t connect to airbag ecu. Can connect to abs and engine without any problem.
I have 3 pieces of 3-pin connetors on fusebox cover in engine department, one is abs, other engine so I assume the third is for airbag? Or is it located somewhere else? Have checked glove department.
It´s driving me crazy since I can connect to ABS and engine ECU´s and light was not on before removing dash.
 
On the passenger footwell on the centre console/top of exaust tunnel (take the kick panel off the console).
 
Eventually found it! Took the covers off the sides of the centre console, found a plug with 3 wires in, yes! Connected and nothing..Damn, did a scan and it showed climate control...
Did a bit more digging and found the yellow wire tucked far up under console and voila! There it was, connected directly and was able to clear airbag fault code and now it´s fine again!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm trying to resurrect an old Fiat.
It's a 1998 Marea 100TD and I'm trying to reset the airbag light. I've got the 3pin to OBD convertor and the local Fiat specialists have tried both connectors on the offside of the engine compartment and with the computer set to "Airbag" it searches for ages, tries to connect and nothing.
Should I be looking for another connector under the dash for the airbag reset? If so what is this yellow wire? I found a yelow wire with what looks like a resistor of some sort in a 2 pin connector but that doesn't look like what I want to connect to.
 
It is not in the engine compartment, the airbag ecu is right under the heater controls on top of the exhaust tunnel. I guess on UK model it could be on the left side. If you look at the centre console it has extensions where your shins/knee hits, take it out and you might see the yellow wires and ecu connector with some luck.
 
Right I've taken the whole centre console out, found the Airbag module (a metal box with Airbag" on it?) bolted to the top of the tunnel with lots of yellow wires, but no obvious way to plug into them.
In fact I can't see any sockets like the ones in the engine compartment anywhere.
I've felt as far up behind the dash as I can but nothing.
Anyone got any ideas or photos showing what I should be looking for?
It's a good car and I don't want to scrap it just because a light won't go out.

IIRC the airbag ecu connecter for the left hand drive TD100, is on the right (left when looking into the bonnet) hand suspension mount, one of the two connectors shown in the picture. The 3 pin connectors were a pain to get working, they need 12v power, and i think in my case there was a slider on the plug housing which had to be changed to the correct position. IIRC there was also the option to have adapter plugs for each module, engine, fuel system, airbag depending on which diag cable you purchased. this is all a bit fuzzy, i scrapped my TD100 7 years ago.

Both of the sockets found there have been tried with the reader set to search for Airbag and nothing, I think one responded to ABS but can't remember about the the other one as I wasn't operating the reader.
The OBD to 3pin adapter I have has a 12v feed wire that is connected to the battery +ve.
When plugged into either socket the reader searches and searches for Airbag before saying it cannot connect.
People who have had success turning the light out appear to have found the Airbag plug hidden away behind the centre console near the Airbag module.

As I can't see anything like the sockets under the centre console, I'll look again in the engine compartment.
 
I found the yellow wires and connector when I took the liner out of the glove box but the "Snap-on" reader used by the garage still couldn't get a reply on that connection either.
Any idea what makes of reader are VAGcom rather than ELM?

I'm between Peterborough and Huntingdon but I can load it and tow smewhere on a trailer if necessary.

If you have Multiecuscan software on a laptop (worth having anyway for EUR50), then the likes of Gendan Ltd will sell a cheap VAGcom (also known as KKL) interface which you can plug in via a USB port.

Do your garage know they need to be using VAGcom/KKL protocols?

I did have ECUscan on a laptop some years ago just can't remember which one.

I bought it when I had a Croma and needed to sort the warning lights out.

I just need to hunt through 2 or 3 old laptops to see if I can find it.

On point 2 I doubt if they would know the difference - I didn't know there was any until now. They were using a "Snap-on" reader.
 
Latest.....................

Called into Grays of Warwick last week and thay say they still have the old pre-obd computer that links straight to 3 pin sockets so I've booked the car in for an MOT next week. They have also got a crankshaft pulley to replace the wobbly one that is on it's way out IF it passes the MOT.
 
passenger side, behind bottom of the dash upper your feet , closed to center console , yellow cable with 3 pin, must scanned with KKL switched to Airbag

Well I trailered the Marea there and left it with them for a week or so.
Their tester thought it would need more for the MOT than my local Fiat specialist, so I scrubbed having the MOT done there.
Grays managed to turn the airbag light off and so the local Fiat guys passed it with with advisories instead of fails.
So back on the road.
Seatbelt light now stays on so time to check the wiring/microswitches to the seatbelt buckles.
