Hello everyone,

First post here so Im sorry in advance if this topic already exists.

I have a Panda Active 1.1 2009 model and I want to have it converted to 4wd.

Is this conversion possible? Does anyone has any idea of the cost or parts needed?

Thank you in advance,

John

I hope you have deep pockets and a lot of engineering skills.
Why not just go and buy a 4x4 panda?

if you have plenty of money and/or skill, then its possible.

it is not worth it though. i would just buy a 4wd panda.

Here in Greece the 4x4 or Cross models of Panda 2009-2010 are going for like 5000€+ .

If I am to give that kind of money then I prefer to make the conversion.

Unfortunately I have 0 skill for mechanical work. So I need to find a mechanic to do the job.

I was thinking of starting small and taking it bit by bit.

nope

I would say a none starter. From a cost point of view

The only reason to do a conversion would be to do the work yourself. The costs of professional fees would make the project more costly than importing a 4x4 car.

In simple terms, you would need a complete donor car to ensure you have all necessary parts. In that situation, you would be better repairing the donor car.

You'd have to buy a 4x4 cars just to get the parts you need

New gearbox reax axle probably fuel tank engine ECU and body computer locketset to match the new ECU immobiliser codes a full wiring loom for the car
Then possibly other things such as abs pump as it's likely it will have different software to the 2wd cars

I believe the body shell has the necessary mountings (it certainly has the prop shaft centre bearing mounts) but bolting on the parts is just the easy bit. Making it work is not.

So much is integrated with computers and code matched electronic modules there really is little chance of swapping the mechanics and have it all work.

I am surprised. I have a 4wd Toyota starlet and the floor is quite a bit different to the 2wd. The front and rear seats mount differently. The centre console sits slightly higher, the boot floor is completely different!!!!

I guess fiat may have made a 1 size fits all floor to save money on manufacturing costs???

That’s news to me. I’ve not actively looked, but having owned a few 2wd Pandas I don’t recall seeing unused mounting points for the centre prop bearing etc.
