Technical 1242 Performance Cam

the stud pattern is different so the manifolds arent interchangable.

I wonder tho, if you could use an MPI head and just bolt on an SPI unit and not use the injectors that are on the MPI's manifold.

Ahh right, I assumed they'd have the same stud pattern as the other 8v heads. I'm half tempted to source a 75 cam from the scrapper's now, but it'll have to go on the long list of stuff I want but can't afford! ;)

My 1108 Spi turbo has a punto 75 head (with the hotter cam). The studs are different so i had to weld extensions on the Spi manifold, any decent welder can do it...

weld an alloy head?

Didn't said to weld anything on the head, the inlet manifold needs extensions of about 2cm on the top studs, in order to fit the mpi head...

No reason to change the whole head, of course. My 1108 head had worn cam bearings, had to change the whole...

You can fit the Punto 75 cam into an 1108 or 1242 SPI engine for a bit of extra power. Not sure of the exact profile, but it is an improvement over the standard SPI fitting.

You could use the Punto 75 head as well, but you'd need to use the MPI inlet manifold with the SPI throttle body - the fact that the other four injectors are not used is no big deal, I used to have this arrangement on a 1242 8v turbo.

Really, unless you know the details of the cam profile it's very difficult to say that one is better than the other and few people actually publish this information.

Perhaps something to be researched and published on here as a comparison guide?

well its enough to give the 1242 mpi 75bhp.. i know it has MPI and a higher compression ratio but the cam is helping too.

Thats a point, is the punto 60 and punto 75 block the same - pistons etc. As I understand it, the easiest way to raise the compression ratio would be to skim a bit off the head - but as they're both safe engines, surely they're already produced to as near to the limit as possible. I'm not explain myself too well. Anyone get what i mean?

I understand theres around 30-50 thousands of an inch that can be milled off before pinking becomes an issue, but I dunno about where it will become an interference design

so hang on, could i just buy a 75 engine, put a spi TB on it and easily drop it into the cinq? or isnt it as straight forward as that?
and how do i kno which 4 injectors to use?
and wat about exhaust manifolds, i really want a stainless one, do they do them for the 75? i

money isnt really a problem... i use that term loosly. lol i just found this on another thread.... http://www.colombo-bariani.com/ they sell a proper performance cam for it.... hmmmm....

Chris
I emailed colombo-bariani and it turns out their UK agents are EB Spares:

Fiat 1242 8V "Fire" engine , 1 camshaft, FF 103.280 S

Cost is £202.00 plus carriage and vat.

I would need to special order for you. Delivery would be approx 3 weeks.

is that the standard cam? or the perfmormance one?

would still rather pay £40 for a punto 75 cam tho...
Thats the 'Road max' cam - they don't recommend the race cams for road cars unless you want to be rebuilding it every few weeks....

I won't be paying that much for a cam, I just wanted to know what they cost and threw the emial up for anyone who was thinking about it. I have blown the budget with my new Sportex zorst so no new goodies for me for a while.

Hi

The Colombo & Bariani cams are very higt quallity (y)

The cams are also sold from Gazzella Racing in England.

I know this company from when they had a perfomance center in Denmark - very pro. people and their prices is quite low to.

I still buy things from them now and then tho i live in Denmark.

My 1242 spi engine has the 268 degree fastroad 1 and this cam is really impressive in torque and middle revs.

The 280 degree fastroad 2 cam is fitted in my new project cylinderhead and this cam is promissed to gain 15 hp - the torque with the 280 degree cam will be a little lower cause it quite hot.

After 280 degree comes a racing 1 and 2 cam with 292 and 300 degree but these two cams is a little to hos and idle will not be possible before 1500-2000 rpm.

Here's the link to Gazzella Racing - look under "Seicento engine tuning"
