having problems with 3rd gear again! :(

does anyone know the main fault with these?is it the gear and the sycro ring/hub?? or more serious??

its just jumping out when I put it into 3rd, only does it sometimes, now its most of the time.

any ideas guys?

i had this problem on my hgt a number of years ago. it ended with a custom rebuild. i was told that the selectors inside the box were weak. the first rebuild was still noisy (bearings) so it was send back and they put alfa internals in with stronger selectors, from a van iirc.
 
Unfortunately, there are not the same choice with the C514 box as with the Punto HGT box. The problem you describe is premature wear that is not common. There are no common problems with these boxes, but what you describe sounds like a bent selector fork, but could be anything. Cheaper/ easier to just change the box IMO. 75k on my 100HP and it changes like a new one in every gear. Not my doing as I have only had it 6 months, but proves they are inherently OK.
 
there are a few people on this site that have said same thing, not saying its a common problem, but is on my gearbox! this is second time the gearbox has problem going into 3rd.

Does anyone know if the Grande Punto 1.4 6 speed gearbox is the same? or 500 1.4 6 speed?

All 6 speed gearboxes of the type you are talking about are the same on all FIAT models since 1999 or so. They all have identical ratios. It is just the bolt-on mount parts and gear change brackets, etc. that can be different.
 
On my 2.5 year old 100hp, third gear syncro was already on the way out. That's at 27K. Reckon it's a weak point in all honesty as I'm fairly sympathetic to gearboxes though do tend to hammer third a bit for the corners.
