Hey All

Due to high repitition rates of threads regarding lowering a Stilo, I wanna put one as a sticky in this section.

Now, give me a problem to do with the Stilo's electrics and I'm there :D, but I know sweet F.A. about lowering! So if someone with experience, Matt, Rob, Phil, and knows a decent thread on here about it (3dr, 5dr, MW, options for each), please let me know; I can merge some threads together if some have relevant info.

Once done, I'll unstick this thread and delete it.

Cheers peeps!! :D

Didn't want to start a new thread, let me know if I shouldn't post this here:

I have just read on an online store that if you lower a car by more than 30mm then you may have to change to shorter shockers. Is this the case with a Stilo? I wanna drop it, but I can't stretch to any more than just springs. Shocks will come later in the year.

Theres a few who have gone to -50mm, (Activematt) (1.8Stilo)? on standard shox. If I were doing lowering again I would go full hog and get new shox too (as well as me Eibach's)

I have a set of PI -35mm springs coming on Monday....will be fitting them on Tuesday. I take it the guide that was mentioned hasnt yet surfaced? I will take my camera when I do it and sort one out if its of any help. I figure it cant be very difficult if it only takes a garage 2 hours.

Got mine done yesterday on -35mm Koni springs. Glad I did put it in the garage, they had real problems with the strut tops.

Why? They are one bolt on each? I think they may have been justifying their bill.......Ive done my fronts in 1 1/2 hours this morning.....off to do the backs now!

Yep! Easy as that.......you need to seek out a garage that knows what its doing!
The rears took me 50 minutes for both sides. 2hrs 20minuts in total...plus maybe 20 minutes setting up and clearing away. It was all basic stuff. I can easily do a guide for it as I took a set of photos as I went. I just need to know where to send it etc....I'm rubbish with a computer!
The best thing about doing it was that you only need 3 spanners....6mm, 17mm and 19mm. The only other tools are a set of spring clamps, a screwdriver and a 6mm allen key......most cars need twice that amount of stuff.
It has improved the handling nicely....not too stiff, but it feels more planted and it no longer looks like its set for 'off road' but at the same time its not 'slammed to da max bro!!!' and I wont need to avoid speed humps!!:D

It'll be interesting to hear how you rate the improvement once you're used to it as I can see myself going the same route (y)

What made you chose -35mm PI's over -30mm Eibach's ?

I made the PI vs Eibach decision based on the fact that Eibach were quoting 2-3 weeks delivery (by which time my race season will have started and I wont have the time....or should I say the wife wont let me have the time!!!:) ) and the Eibachs were £150 where as............

Ive been out in it today for a reasonable run and it feels good....as I said not too hard but firmer than it was. It looks good too.....35mm is by no means low. It looks like it was meant to be that low.

Chris, presumably now the garage have massacred your shock, youve had to have a new one? I hope theyre paying!!!

I'm usually the first one to have a go about garages ripping me off, but they didn't do anything wrong. They put the allen key in the top to hold the shock still and a spanner on the nut to undo it.They turned the nut and the top of the shock just split.I really don't think on this occasion it was their fault.

Well if thats happened I would say it was just bad luck and Sh$t happens so what Was the out come how did they get around this situation Chris:)

They ended up having to split the first nut off. The cleaned up the thread and ran a die over it and the second nut went on no problem. They had no worries removing the nut, the prblem was fitting the new one...obviously just a nacked nut.

Like I said, these guys know what they're doing. The had an old 500 that they rebuilt from the ground up. was BEAUTIFUL!

OK, so I've had a think now, and there's something not quite right with my front suspension. It feels fine, feels a little sharper, but it looks no different at all. It's obvious the rear's been lowered, but the front looks no different, if anything maybe a little higher. Is this gonna settle? Should the mechano kit have been removed when fitting the new springs?

It should have settled by now! The new springs are an exact fit for old. Mine settled after a 10 mile run. Are you sure? Hows the back? Mine are about level......and significantly lower than before.
