I wonder if some of this is down to the poor things having a hard life, maybe before you gents got hold of them? Mine is a 2007 2 litre 120 with 134,000 clocked up and since I got it two years ago it has done the length and breadth of the UK twice over. It will sit at 80 all day on mways and runs at just over 2 1/2 thousand rpm at that speed with standard 65 aspect ratio tyres, never had to rev it any more than that. That level of rpm should allow today's diesels to last forever, they are more like ships engines than cars. I do change the oil and all filters at 8,000 miles though as I like the van so much I don't want to lose it. Fingers crossed!
I say this because the handful of folk I've allowed to drive it had no idea they couldn't rev a diesel (yes I know Golf GTID drivers are nuts) like a petrol and were all heavy footed until I corrected them. Anyway good luck gents.

I'm currently having the same problems you are having and i'm no where near skilled enough to fix it myself and no way i can afford £3000+ ... heart braking!

no idea what to do apart from drive it until it dies, only thing i get different is mine brakes down at random months apart. The engine just cuts out with "anti pollution" warning message dose not instantly re start, but it will eventually start and then drives like nothings happened. then the warning light goes out the next day!

Hi, and welcome, :)

what do the stored fault codes say..?

there should be some left after the "anti-pollution" etc messages..
that is often down to software needing updating - from oil changes , etc

(this post / thread is approx 5 years old.. so things will have changed.. possibly for the better....)

Ah ok didn’t even notice the date and it was just after a oil change by the way.
I don’t have a code reader I will get one and post the code up when I know.

So just an update it broke down in the worst place passable! on a main road into London at rush hour! got towed to a garage and ended up having to have both cam shafts, rockers, covers, drive belts, fuel filter and all rocker clips replaced cost me £2500 then 4 days later it stopped again! this time a fuel valve £500. this van is a load of rubbish. just want it fixed now so i can sell it and try and recover some of the financial damage.
