Ok, so the past couple of days I have started my engine, to have a response of a rapid shaking of the car itself and feeling like it is going to cut out.

Today came the day when it did cut out. For the past couple of days when it has been doing this, I cannot get it to stop, when I touch the gas pedal it doesn't even rev, but car still moves.
Once I build up speed I can revv it a bit more and that clears the juddering for the remainder of the journey.

But when I backed into a car parking space (on a slight incline), she was juddering and then stalled without me coming off the clutch or accelerator or doing anything.

It seems to relate back to an issue I had back in October - [see thread] - as to this day that light remains on and the juddering continues.

MK2 1.2 8v (year 2000). :)

Thanks if you're able to help identify the issue.

Yeah the light is still there. I took it to my Fiat garage in November. They claimed it was the coil, but two days later the light re-appeared so back to the garage it went and they had the car for a couple of days and did dozens of different tests but no faults came through.
They said it might be the ECU but would the ECU cause that? They didn't want to replace the ECU as once that's been programmed it can't be undone so that'd be a waste of a new ECU (if the light remained on)

Well usually if I leave it for about 20 seconds the engine will run fine after that but today I never attempted it. It was still shaking violently when I was driving for about 1/4 of a mile until I got up to about 25mph.

Don't know if it will solve your problem, but try cleaning out the throttle body.
My car juddered and cut out while cold and was fine once ran or warmed up. Cleaned throttle body out and all was ok again! Light on aswell could be seperate thing possibly? Worth a try though. Takes 10 min to do and costs maximum £4

Thanks - I will try that; it's a pain in the backside because unlike all the other threads on here (and I have done a search round) I haven't found anyone who's had a problem quite like mine!

If anyone else has experienced this problem I'd just oh so love to know what it is! :D

I will give your advice a try though. I'm not very mechanically minded, I'm more of a technical person so is there any advice/guidance I need to know before I carry out the throttle cleaning?

Also what would cause this to just randomly start happening?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Its highly unlikely to be the ECU. Check everything before you go down that road.

When Fiat did their tests on it back in November, they did every possible test and showed me this huge wad of paperwork (results from each test). All tests results were positive and they said that it might well be the ECU, because the same fault code kept coming up.

However, they didn't want to take the risk of fitting a new ECU because then if the warning light came back on the dashboard I could say "it hasn't fixed it". And once the ECU is programmed to the car it can't be undone, so it might of been a waste of a brand new ECU...

It's like banging my head against a brick wall!! :bang:

My M reg Fiat 1.6 ELX had problems, with lights coming on(engine) etc etc, did ECU where they couldnt really say what it was but assumed the coils. Had them done, prob came back, seemed to be very intimmittend.

So my dad had a look at the ECU which was located on the floor front passenger side. It was damp. Seemed everytime the ECU was damp I got these problems, when dry they dissapeared.

Unfortunately eventually the damp shorted a circuit on the board which completely killed my car. I sent the ECU in for complete refurb (£150) and she was great.

My current Fiat Punto 1.2 Active sport 04 reg judders when cold and revs high. Sometimes just cuts out, makes me look like a idiot driver (female driver) but hey ho, will have to see if its not the throttle body as seen on previous thread.

High revs could be the coil or even the O2 sensor allowing engine to rum rich. The dirty intake issue is more likely to judder at low revs.

Mine's just started doing it - very annoying - especially when the motorway wombles close the M6 near B'ham on a monday morning.

Yeah it's not the coils. Fiat supposedly checked that last time. I've got it booked into a "Nationwide Autocentre" (AA aproved or something) for later this week. I will see what they make of it and whether they're able to source and sort it!

I got to the top of a hill today, and it cut out. My right of way, cars just came down the middle of the road (there were parked vehicles on there side) and I had a loss of power. Not really ideal!

WhiteSei and the others, do you find that after getting to a certain RPM or mileage, the juddering stops and then all of a sudden I hear "vroooooooom" as the gas kicks back in!

I also videoed it the other day and it would seem that the exhaust makes a rattling sound of some kind - not sure what this is. But almost like it's choking. A friend described it [the sound of the exhaust] as
"a beaten up, exhausted Peugeot 306 exhaust!"
