Ok, today is the second time that this light has appeared on my dashboard. The last time, I was coming home from Worcester and noticed it whilst cruising down the M40.

I got home to discover (from reading the manual) it meant the performance of the engine would fail the longer it was left on.

An hour after returning home, I fired the engine back up, and the light had gone out. So, I thought "Ok, maybe it's just a dodgy sensor or something."

Today, I was coming home from college and the light came on again and there was a slightly different tone to the engine noise.
Now, I dunno if it's a faulty dashboard light sensor, a genuine problem with the fuel injection system (or "Fuel Injection System Malfunction" as the handbook calls it) or what...

But wondered if anyone else has had this problem before and how much it cost to resolve it? Thanks.

Edit: It's an MK2 1.2 - 8v engine... :)

The light will come on if the ecu receives information it doesn't understand.

The ecu will reboot every time you start the car, but a mark2 should be obd2 compliant so you can get the fault read.

If no fault stored, you could start flashing the sensors, but I would probably wait until the fault does leave a footprint.

Cheers

Righto.
Well, just took it out for a run, whenever I fire up the engine now, she is choking / spluttering at me. :S

Just an update on this, I've phoned up my nearest Fiat garage who are going to have a look at it next week for me and give it a reading / fault diagnostics report, so I'll see how it goes. It's due for a service/ MOT anyway, but would rather get this looked at before, in case it's something serious.

Very sluggish ride today though when turning into/ around corners and struggling to pull away once I'd gone round them (corners/ turnings).

Another update here: it's now vibrating a bit when I first start the engine, then it settles itself out! Seems to be escualting - whatever the problem is!

oh no! When is it going in the garage?

I had a warning light come on last year which was to do with the fuel injection and think we put a cleaner in the petrol (cant remember what it was called) although I'm not 100% sure as cant remember exactly what they did so don't quote me on it!

It's booked into my nearest Fiat garage next Tuesday, so I'm gonna run it over there, and they're going to give it a diagnosis fault report and then tell me what the problem is and tell me how much it's gonna cost me to fix!

Today it felt like a different car to drive, that's for sure!

Light has gone out on it as of lunch time today. Still taking to the garage because better safe than sorry, really.

Righto, I have been driving it locally (within 1 or 2 miles) but that's only because I have to get to college / work... (my workplace is slightly further, 6 miles).

My nearest Fiat garage is 20 miles away, so I'll be gentle with her when I'm driving her over there. :)

Took it to Fiat (Grays Garage in Warwick) today; engine violently cut out literally 2 mins before I turned up at the garage and then kangaroo'd a bit; managed to start the engine only to see the light back on the dashboard - AHHHH!

Pulled into the Garage, parked up and as soon as I went in, I sat down and they were onto it! Excellent.

Seemed that the problem was that one of the ignition coils had gone, so got that replaced and off I went. :)

Oh, no! The warning light has just re-appeared on my dashboard... Not impressed!

Grays can look at it again on Monday, which is inconvienient for me as I'm a student, it's got its MOT/Service on Friday, so I am physically going to be bankrupt by the time this is all sorted. GRRRRR

Might as well just get a new car...
