Can anyone recommend a code reader that they're positive works with the 16v (18FD.5Z) ECU?

Also, do these 3pin to 16pin converters work?

Just visited a local garage, they tried their "Launch" system on it, car wasn't listed. Then tried a Snap-on system, car was listed (engine code 176.B9) but it didn't work either.

Apart from getting an arm ripped of by a Fiat dealer, anyone got any recommendations?

Right, after much time, effort and help, I finally have some code working that can read basic values from the ecu.

The only requirement is the purchase of a ~£10 VAG COM 409.1 lead, which you then have to either modify yourself or spend another couple of quid on a 16 to 3pin (with power) adapter.

My engine is not running quite right at the moment so if anyone with a MK1 1.2 16v engine with the 18FD ECU is interested in reading codes etc. from their ECU, please can you try the app in this thread:

No interest in this?

Can a mod edit the thread title to: "MK1 1.2 16v (18FD) ECU Reader" ?

Hi nedge2k,

Did you have anyluck with reading your car's ecu?

I'm in simliar boat lol I have a 16f ecu on my mark1 1.1 97 punto.
My IAW/Injection light stays on, And I've tried 3 garage's so far with no luck in getting the ecu read

Was just wondering if your plan worked, As I might try doing it at home myself, providing I get the rite stuff.

Dave

If it's the 16F, barnacle's app (see the 16F thread above) works fine with a modified VAG-COM cable - or you buy the VAG-COM and 3-Pin adapter and not have to mess about with a soldering iron ;)

And yeah, the 16F app works on the 18FD but I could never get barnacles app to work so I modified brainsucker's 16F app to work with the VAG-COM cable.

Hi nedge2k,

Do you live around stoke on trent/staffordshire :D :worship:

could you please check these for me?

Is this VAG-COM cable ok? 260578102988

and is this the rite pin convertor. 370361606468

Can't find any other's cheaper than that?

Also what sort of PSU would I need, as that cable convertor has got red/black crocodile clips lol

Just thinking this might be the better option, As I'm ok on the computer, And even if I find a garage that will read the ecu and clear it, I'll only have to pay again if it comes back on.

My ecu details are attached.

Thanks
Dave

yep they look like the right cables. you connect the red/black to the battery ;)

with that VAG COM cable you will need barnacle's app. if you get stuck, lemme know.

and nah, I'm in Loughborough area mate.

Nope, neither the 16F or 18FD ECU are supported by that, hence why people have had to write their own.
