Hello all,

I'm still having problems with the fan in my 1.2 8v. When I turn the fan on the side lights still come on. I have examined all the leads around the area the motor is located and although they all look shoddy they don't seem to be broken or damaged. there is a big yellow cable but i am unsure if this is any thing to do with the heater.

any ideas would be most welcome.

How do I go about removing that wire? it seems to run in to a sealed unit.

Thanks for your help!!

I have disconected the black earth wire by taking it out. should I replace it or bypass it (what did you mean by bypassing it?)

Am I right to follow it to were it goes and take that end out too?

Bloody hell!!!
Ok the wire is back in!
Sorry for being dim but electrics are not my thing but I refuse to pay!

Is the connection i'm looking for got three wires running in and three wires running out? I hope so cos I cut the black wire going in!:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::cry:

Have a look at post number 32 in the link i gave you, that is the connector you are looking for, and the red line is what you need to do.

Cheers,
Alan

Ok!
So I cut the black wire either side (can't pull the connector apart) and get another bit of wire and wrap it around the ends tape it up and it should work?

Can i use any wire? Can I leave the bit of wire in the connector?

thanks

Yep. Any wire of the same or similar gauge will be fine. And yes just leave the other bit of wire in the connector. You could just join the two ends together if they will reach each other.

Hope that helps,
Alan

I shall buy some scotchlocks tommorrow. They won't reach so what kind of gauge am I gonna need to buy?

Thanks for all your help.

P/S any ideas how much i can get new wing mirrors for? the local students kicked them off.

All you need to do is match up the thickness roughly. (ie don't use thin speaker wire which may melt under load etc).
With regards to the wing mirrors, you can get them off e-bay brand new £20 each! Students Eh! Probably got them in their bedroom along with 300 traffic cones and a set of traffic lights lol

Hope that helps,
Alan

Thanks for all your help. Gonna fix the damn thing after work tomorrow! no more cold drives to work for me!

cheers

I have carried out the earthing procedure and the fan now works (thanks for the info) but when I switch on the fan I get approximately 250mV when checking the wire to an earth on the car body. Is this OK / normal? When I have switched on all other electrical items in the car at the same time I only get approximately 2.6mV
