Have I just been unfortunate or has anyone else had a complete nightmare with an 04 (or similar age) Punto? So far, I've had to replace the CD player, replace the horn (twice!!), and also replace the turbo (which 'broke' after less than a year!). And just today, I've had to put it back into the garage as the engine management light (ECU?) has come on and it won't rev above 2.5k! I don't expect miracles, but for a car of this age, I feel that's a lot of problems! My father has a 53 reg same spec model and had problems with his engine management/turbo also. A colleague also seems to have had a catalogue of problems with her Punto (although hers is an Active Sport).

The reason I bought a Punto was as my husband had a 1996 1.1l 55SX which, until this year, had only had to have the battery/tyres/exhaust replaced - and it had done 116,000 miles! Was a treasure of a car. Was his just exceptionally good and mine exceptionally bad?

I'm dreading the phonecall from the garage this morning to tell me what's wrong this time and how much it will cost to replace!!

Everything came under the warranty (although they did try to charge me for the 2nd horn replacement as it was 1 month past the 2 year warranty). Sadly, it's now fallen onto the 3rd year of warranty, which isn't manufacturer's - it's just an Arnold Clark warranty now which doesn't seem to cover anything!! To get them to attach a computer to it this morning was going to cost over £60 alone!

Ok well you didn't actually have to do or pay for any of the above as it was all covered under warranty.

Your second horn would of been covered by 3rd warranty, assuming a correct service history.

From the symptons you describe it sounds like you may well have a faulty MAP sensor, did you get it connected to the computer?

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm out of pocket with all the work, but I'm just concerned about what happens once the warranty runs out. I don't expect so many problems in a relatively new car. I'm hoping it's just a few teething problems and by getting them out of the way now, I'll not have to cough up so much in future!

I've not heard back from the garage yet, so I don't know what their 'diagnosis' is yet. They did say to me when I described the symptoms this morning that they thought they might have to order a part.

Well, I just phoned the garage. Apparently they had to replace the 'boost pressure sensor' and that this was nothing to do with my dodgy driving! Is that something similar to the MAP? I'll find out the damage on the wallet when I go to collect it!

Yes thats the MAP sensor.....thats a fiver to me.....so I have to give myeslf a fiver:confused: ......hmmmmm need to get a lend of fiver from wife before I can do that

I reckon you'd be looking at £100 odd,3rd year warranty?

Ah! Well done, you! If I had a fiver, I'd give it to you myself! For all my criticisms of the garage, they actually did the work for free! Anything for a quiet life!

And thanks.

Glad your faith is restored (y)

Thanks for your offer but if you did give me a fiver the wife would mug me anyway  However you could make a donation of a couple quid to keep this fine friendly site going :)

Dont be a stranger & keep coming back here (y)
