Checking my 2003/53 Punto MultiJet over for the MOT and noticed the radiator crossmember is rotten and needs replaced. It seems to be a bolt on part.

Has anyone else had to replace this before?

Is FIAT the only place to get one?

Many thanks,
Stuart

Hi,

I've replaced a fair few of these, they tend to go at either the ends or where the rad sits. It can be somewhat of a pain getting the rusty bolts out!

Iirc there was a thread on here not too long ago where someone replaced theirs? I think it may have Been @atom0007 may be wrong though.

They're not very expensive from Fiat but you could always try the usual eBay, ECP etc for aftermarket ones

Mine is completely rotted on a 06 1.2active, just haven't got round to replacing, every time I slam the bonnet there is a shower of rusty metal onto the drive lol
Think on mine it's a chop and weld job wish it was as easy as bolt on ?

Sent from my iPad Air using FIAT Forum

Can you do it with radiator still in place with bumper?

Wonder because on the mk2b and i think even on the mk2 bumpers i've had they had cutout for the bolts

My mk2's were solid
My Mk2b's came out - so i copper slipped the them up when reinstalling them
So hopefully they'll come out again

Got the new crossmember from eBay for less than £30 brand new.

Do I need to take the bumper off?

you can leave rad in place IIRC, there are 2 rubber mount points where it sits on the cross member. I secured it using rope to when doing the repair.

That's the way I did it too. Ended up having to use the whizzy-gun on some of the fastenings though. Fiat part number is 46524628 if anyone is struggling to find them.

The bolts that go through the front Ladder tower thins - they seized terribly due to been in the firing line of water

You need either alot of heat - oil or impact

As i stated before - my mk2's wouldnt budge with brute force
the mk2'b came off with a little tap of my hand on my half inch ratchet :)
