hi could really do with a little help before i take this car to the garage AGAIN! i went to take my daughter to school the car started fine, but as i pulled away and started to drive the car started juddering and shaking! it was a struggle to get to 30mph and felt like the car was really stuggling! thankfully the school is only round the corner! when i got back in the car it started fine and drove normal!i drive this car alot and rely on it! any suggestions as what may be wrong ? i have 2 small children and im pregnant i can not afford to not sort this problem and risk being stranded! any ideas as to what it may be before i go to the garage?? thanks alot x x

with the damp weather we are having.
it may be just throwing a tantrum,
the short run and then stopping may of given something chance to dry out

did the engine management light come on?

no management lights came on the car seems to be running ok at the moment but it doesnt sound like it did before?? x

yep means nothing lol i am going to pick up a haynes manual hopefully that will help x

i bourght the car 6 months ago and there is a slip that says it was serviced 3 months before that. 3 weeks ago i had to have the oil filter changed as the old one was leaking very badly x

mine did same thing. lift bonnet with engine running in the dark and look for plug leads, they will probably be glowing blue like mine were, they dont change them on a service. new set of leads will cure it. assuming the fault is occuring after you take foot of clutch and setting off if its when clutch is pressed would start looking at botton dog bone engine mount, now that can be a whole world of pain, easy to change if the bolt comes out

Mine is doing the exact same thing! It started off happening for just part of my journeys and would eventually kick in but it has no started to be the majority of the time! I was told to change the spark plugs and/or HT leads before doing anything more expensive. Just need to get round to doing it! Let me know if you've fixed it and how! xx

it seems to have fixed it self, FOR NOW! i took it to the garage who had a quick look but said every thing looked fine and since the car wasn't doing it now that i should bring it back when it is!?! he did say that it would be worth having a major service, or at the very leasthaving all plugs and leads changed. being so close to christmas i just dont have the cash for a major service so end of next week just going to change plugs and leads for now xx

I had a service in October but didn't change the spark plugs or leads. Just had everything checked, oil changed and fuel treatment. I'll have to get them done end of the month. I'll let you know how it works. Hopefully it will just be that and not something more expensive!! X

more of an oil-change than a service then..,;)

as stated = look for sparks under the bonnet at night ( back of engine-under BLACK plastic air filter cover), that the plugs / leads area,

where are you based? -as we may be able to offer recommendations on a place that will actually do the work properly, (y)

Mine does the same, when it is damp or been raining, it goes, but doesn't pick up any speed! And then suddenly kicks in, it was a bit scary when it first started happening!! So you think I just need to change the spark plugs and leads? How much does that cost?? Roughly? X

Thanks for the help x

All depends on what engine you have ?

1.2 8v are cheap
1.2 16v expensives

all parts places vary best to look on eurocarparts etc

Again trouble starting car!

*UPDATE*

ok well this car is driving me mad! a few weeks ago i had trouble starting it called out RAC who said it was battery, so i changed that! then a week later in the middle of the night had trouble starting it agian a passer by gave me a bump start which got the car going however the engine managementy light was on! took it to a garage who put car on diagnostics< which they kindly charged me for! only to tell me that it was saying is was misfiring on multiple cylinders, but it wasnt saying which ones he turned off the light and said to come back if or when the light came back on. well today the car would not start! finally got it started but again the engine light is on to be honest i dont want to go back to the garage and be charged again just to be told to come back if it happens again! i need to know if someone can tell what this means and what part needs changing to stop it happening again lol i got to very small kids and 7 months pregnant on my own need to rely on my car starting lol thanks all xxx

Re: Again trouble starting car!

Was the battery flat because you'd been trying for some time to start it, or would it not start because the battery was flat? Pointing at a flat battery is the easy bit!

If battery is going flat, you have a charging problem.

If battery is ok, but engine won't start, then we have to go with what oldhammer says.

Need a bit more info.
Also, update your location. If we know where you are, there may be a forum member nearby, willing to take a look.
