i brought a punto xreg 1.2 8v it revs on its own when driving soon as you change gear its runs great untill you move up a gear come down is ok i have owned the car for over 2months now its happen 4times but doesnt lost long its done it today and was ok after 5mins

i've read a number of posts about this problem so i know its common but the posts are date 02 so i thought i would ask for myself as its it 9years on since then and wonder if there a fix for this now

hope you can help this is my 1st car

Check the Butterfly Valve in the Throttle Body isn't sticking open

Check the Inlet manifold isn't able to suck extra air in that shouldnt be there

Ziggy
i just looked under the bonnet theres a nut missing from the front of the air box could this be lifting a causing more air getting in

it could be yes
As you are driving along the Airbox could be lifiting up - and Opening a Much bigger gap on the throttle Body so its sucking tons of air in that it shouldnt

Try wacking a bolt in - and see if it helps, but i'd be still having a look out for other things

ok mate i'll keep you posted

i looked under the airbox and theres a little pipe wich wasnt connected to the air filter so pushed this back on and screwed airbox down and car has ran a treat but there wasnt a clip to screw the pipe tightly to the airbox

The Breather Pipe comes from the Rocker cover
its a tight fit so no clips needed

this then splits into 2, it then feeds back into the Injection rail sort of area
And the other sits under the air box, and just sits on it to introduce the recirculation of oil fumes :)

No Clips needed, as there all reasonable fits, if they are loose and sloppy, then it's stretched or ripped = Need a new breather pipe

been running a week now with no problems must of been sucking in to much air

spoke to soon:bang::bang: look at air filter and the breather pipe come off again would this cause this problem? i done 260miles since last time so if it was another problem would i see it more than once in this space

Maybe the end split and someone cut it short. Either extend the hose or get a new one also try a hose clip if you can get at it to screw it up. Dont overdo it.
